Im wondering wether an asus eee laptop will run vag-com ?

Think it just requires xp ans a usb port ? or is it serial ?

i just got a usb cable off ebay and used the demo version on my mothers old car. For £12 it was pretty usefull.

I have never found any other software it will work with though, have to get a mate round if i want to read other codes.

Same here as all I use it for is checking fault codes before I put it in to the independent guy who does my servicing (touch wood so far the only one has been for the radio!)

Not sure I'd trust myself with the full version!

I almost bought the thing, though does it not cost over one hundred English marks? I wouldn't mind keeping an eye on mine as apparently the aircon decided to stop working some time before my last service, and then started working again when they poked something up it :)

What's the cheapest way of getting maximum functionality? I remember a Skoda guy saying it costs thousands, but he also said my discs needed changing, which they didn't. He's dead now (he's not dead).

Paradigm is right, purists will say the Ross-Tech way is the only way to go and that the cheaper cables are unreliable but tbh my £15 cable hasn't let me down yet.

Managed to enable windows on fob, disable windows on key in door, disable selective unlocking, read/clear codes and a whole load more. Albeit this is with the full version, which was supplied with my cable... which I think is somewhat less than kosha... eep.

A cheap one is ok but they didnt do one for Canbus cars when I bought mine(i don't know if they do now). Anything newish(2004 onwards) needs a Can enabled cable. My Hex-Can-USB cable was £260 although they now do a micro-can cable for £180. Its was superb on my A3 and you could even change the steering assist settings to give more feedback when driving.
