Corsair HX 620 just blew up.....

So I bought a 4870X2 a few weeks ago, and everything seemed fine in my system (e4800, maximus formula, 2 HDDs etc). However, just as I was about to go to bed tonight, my house light flickered in my study briefly and my PC seems dead. Everything else plugged into the wall socket works fine (ps2, monitor etc), but the PC is just dead as a dodo. The house light still works fine too. I bought the HX 620 in February, so i believe it will still be under warranty, but I can't for the life of me find any sort of UK support for Corsair. Does anyone have any urls or phone numbers? Many thanks.

They have a support forum over at *****. Someone there will be able to sort you out with an RMA.

Seems like OcUK have it filtered out....

just to clarify you suffered a power surge? If your house lights flickered, which are on a different circuit, then it looks as though you could have done with a surge protector which are pretty cheap.

I accept that it seems as though the only piece of equipment that went pop was the PSU but its important to acknowledge the reason

That's the strange thing mate: I DO have a surge protector on that socket. It's a multitap thing that had my monitor, PC and PS2 plugged into also. The PS2 and monitor are fine, the ONLY thing that blew was the PSU, which makes me think it was either under too much load thanks to the 4870X2, or it was simply faulty.

I didn't actually see the light flicker, as I was too busy thinking "what the h*ll!" and looking at my PC, but the GF said they did.

Of course, I am not electrician, so opinions would be appreciated.

Checked the fuse in the kettle plug leading to the PSU?

What were you doing on your pc?

If you were just faffing about on tinterweb, then I doubt the pop was due to load from your gfx card.

Shouldn't a 620w be more than enough for that set up any way. I mean, my rig ran fine on a 460w psu, and I have 4 SATA drives.

Have you tried it today? My old Taggan has gone into protection on a couple of occasions due to power surges. It wouldnt do anything for about 30 mins and then it was fine.

i had an old psu that did this once when i was in uni

Ok, thanks for the replies. In response:

1) I get no lights on my mobo at all now, the thing is completely dead it seems.

2) The first thing i did was swap the kettle lead, in fact I tried 2 others. Nothing :(

3) I was just surfing the interweb when it blew, BUT I had just been playing Grid for about an hour before hand, and did notice an unusual amount of stuttering every 10 seconds or so. This was strange as games are usually smooth as silk, and I can't be sure, but it kinda just *felt* that something was not happy in there, and the thing was creaking a bit.

I just hope nothing has been damaged in there :(
