Bought item on Ebay. Item was described as being under a year old, and in brilliant condition. Item turned up. Was blatantly older, and was a mess. Asked seller for refund. He refused.

Got Paypal involved. After a week or two Paypal came back saying that I was eligable for a refund but first I must return the item to the seller and provide a tracking number. Fine.

Did that.

Now Paypal have said 'Please supply documentry evidence to support your claim'.

Errr hang on - they told me to send it back. Now I have neither the item, which the seller has, nor the money. Is this usually what happens? I'd have been happy to supply them with whatever they wanted when I had the item in my posession but they told ME to send it back!

There appears to be no section on the page to supply any evidence and the date for supplying the evidence by is missing:

'Please provide some supporting documentation for this claim by .'

Do you not get some sort of reciept when you send something off via RMSD or courier?

You have to enter the tracking number from the courier into Paypal - which has been done.

Did you not take any pictures?

Of course I did - but irrespective of this, there is nowhere to enter them, no details of where to send them and nothing telling me what I should do beyond the single line of text. Besides - isn't it a bit late for that? I dont have the item anymore - surely common sense dictates ask for evidence before the buyer sends the item back to the seller!

This is why I refuse to buy anything else from eBay since getting burned myself! They're nothing bu legalised crooks with a monopoly that if it were anything else, like say including a browser and media player with your OS, the European Courts would be all over them.

I gladly sent it away because Paypal said I was covered, and would get a refund. It seems theyve changed their mind unless I can 'prove otherwise'. Fine - I dont mind them cutting down on fraudulent claims. I sell as well so its good to know they dont hand out refunds like sweeties.

But come on - after they instructed me to send the item back is a tad late for that isnt it?

I won't deal with Paypal again unless I am forced to by divine power - which doesn't exist.

Shower of ***** *******.

My thoughts exactly. I don't even buy through websites that only offer Paypal as a payment option.

Steer clear of them entirely.

I actually found them surprisingly useful on the phone for things like this, although its a pain in the arse finding their phone number.

How so?

Were they trying to say it wasn't a legit charity?

They rang me out of the blue one day and started asking me personal questions regarding my finances. I told them that I wasn't going to tell them anything of the sort over the phone on a cold call so they froze the account. From that point on they seemed to do everything they could to stop me getting at the funds.

I only deal with Paypal for all my EBay work.
Only ever had one problem which was sorted out over the phone in 5 minutes.

I have nothing but praise for the company - certainly make my life easier.

I and my family have used Paypal for as long as I can remember and we've never had a single problem, ever. Unless you're stupid it's highly unlikely you'll ever have problems.

Then when did not you adopt the common sense approach?
