hi guys, my spec..

athlon 64 3800 x2
a8n-sli premium
2gb ocz ddr
256mb 7800gt
74gb raptor

I've always been running windows xp pro but recently installed vista ultimate 64 bit. The installation went smooth, no problems at all, and almost all the drivers were also installed just afew unknown devices. I ran windows update, and disabled gameport in the bios and thats sorted everything.

Vista itself runs really smooth, I thought it might not due to my PC being fairly old now. However I do have a problem. I have all my programs, games etc saved on separate hdds. When I try to install office, or nero, from E drive (1TB western digital drive) it stops during installation, for nero it says file is corrupt and for office it just refuses to go past half way. Now I know for certain both nero and office work fine, I installed them from the hdd in xp with no problems at all.

Any ideas?

Also, does quickpar work in vista 64? I use that to scan n repair files I download and after running it last night I got a blue screen.

Overall, I'm happy to keep vista on here its running a lot smoother then I thought it would but just need to resolve some of those issues. Thanks in advance. :)

when installing, right click programs and tick 'run as administrator'

what version of office is it?
ditch nero, it's crap..

use imgburn & infrarecorder instead

get more ram and it'll fly

Didn't work. It turns out afew other things on that hard drive were not showing up or showing as corrupt, I thought the hard drive (purchased less then a week ago) was faulty, but I've just tried new sata cables and office 2007 has now installed and everything is showing. Maybe it was just a dodgy cable or loose connection, I will now however run a hard drive test to see if the hard drives ok.

Always used nero ever since I first got a cd writer I think, can't ditch it :p

I will probably get a new mobo/cpu/ram/gfx but not just yet, its running a lot better then I thought it would and will last me awhile yet.

Any good tweaks for vista 64?

assuming you don't need the full time protection

go into defender, and tools, options, untick 'real-time scanning'

just set a daily scan

leave UAC on, but use 'tweak uac' (google) to set it to silent mode
disable system restore
