NVIDIA GTX 280 or ATI 4870 X2 for me?

At what res?

I certainly couldn't play Crysis maxed out on my 4870 at 1920x1200 even running the core at 850. It still suffered from pauses when I reducing the settings.

Fact is the 280 is the only card that will play every game with consistent performance.

1920x1200. dx9 mode. Everything enthusiast, but I turn off motion blur. No AA of course, and make sure you TURN OFF V-Sync. For me it makes it feel slower, and I get no ripping with it off anyway, so its all good. I get between 22-35fps

Have a nice day :)

Sad really, when you get morons ruining what was becoming a very informative thread!
As others have stated, people only post when they are having problems and as ATI are selling more cards atm you will most likley see more people with problems on ATI cards. I know, its amazing and its logic!!!
I have owned both brands and had no issues with either. I am in the same boat as you and will be buying the 4870X2. On the games and res you listed the 4870X2 is the better card, that is a fact. But you buy whatever makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

I had a choice between the a GTX280 and a 4870 1 gb i could not make my mind up, so my boss at work said he would buy me any card i wanted..............so i chose a 4870x2.
I think anyone else put in my situation would have opted for a 4870x2 over a gtx280.
I have had no problems with the card to date. Another reason why i opted for the 4870x2 over the gtx280 was, when the gtx280 came out Nvidia hit us for £400 for the card. ATI comes out with a faster card and charges us a lot less for it.
Nvidia then brought out the 9800+ why does Nvidia try to milk us all the time?
So yes this time round i brought ATI.
I hope Nvidia learn from this. The gtx280 at the current price is worth buying but if you got the cash get yourself a directx 10.1 card with shader 4.01.

FAIL. (No offence...)

Well, you should have chose the GTX 280, it's far superior ;)

Mate, you seem to keep going on about that, but with no facts to support it. Stop spamming. If you want to post here, make it meaningful, not some one liner that anyone could say. I could argue and say my old 9700 Radeon is better then a 280 GTX with the way your going on about it. lol. No one will listen though.

lol i see your point now. as a single card the gtx280 is not bad at all. the 4870x2 will need software to run at specs if not it will revert back to a 4870 1 gb. but i had to make a choice and at the time the gfx280 was old tech compared with the 4870x2.

Your right Footman didn't notice that.

Gamerwillz is a troll and should be treated as such. I really do feel sorry for such people, infact I pitty them. They are the only ones loosing out. If this is stupid way to increase his post count could an admin take a few away... he might learn but I wouldn't count on it!
Can we get back on topic now?
