The site ComputerandVideogames reported earlier this week that new information may be coming soon about BioWare's Knights of the Old Republic MMO. We do know that the company is working on such a title, thanks to commentary from John Riccitiello during this year's E3. Unfortunately, the words don't stem from the most reliable source. The UK's Daily Star is the source of the claim, with the tabloid's site stating that it will be traveling to San Francisco to see the game in person.

We sent word to LucasArts, asking if they'd be willing to confirm or dismiss their intentions to make an announcement this month. The PR Manager we spoke to stated, specifically, that "LucasArts doesn't comment on unannounced games." We'll keep you updated when (and if) the annoucement is made.

Update!!!

LucasArts and BioWare have invited members of the press to attend an event later this month at which the two companies will finally officially announce the game they've been working on together. They did not say what the game is, of course -- then how could they officially announce it at the event? Obviously we're suspicious that it will be the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic MMO (or just Star Wars: The Old Republic, as the rumored title goes).

EA's John Riccitiello already confirmed the existence of that game under the table way back at E3, and other tidbits of news have only supported it since then. But hey, we suppose it could be something else. It was suggested in the Massively offices that maybe LucasArts bought the rights to He-Man, and it is in fact a He-Man MMO. Or maybe GI Joe. Yeah, we're a-stretchin'. More likely: a Willow game.

According to Worlds in Motion, the invitation says it's "the game that's been rumored about for years." Uh-huh. The announcement will come October 21st, so hold your horses. Or your speeders. Whatever.

This would be kinda awesome, yay another mmo :(

I would have prefered a KotOR stand alone rpg.

TERRIBLE news.

I really REALLY wanted KOTOR3, and not another MMO. I love WOW and all, but I really enjoyed KOTOR for its single player driven story... not a "oh look, I am special... along with the other millions of people playing it" :/

Depends entirely on what they make of it, if it is an MMO. Seeing as Lucasarts pressured Sony into making those awful changes to SWG to make it more mainstream, I'm not holding my breath :(

Wouldn't KotOR drive a nail through Star Wars Galaxies? I can't see LucasArts having two MMOs on the market?

Indeed this will be sad news if it's a MMO. Like others, I was praying for the release of KOTOR 3. I'll keep my fingers crossed although I know that "hope" is an exercise in futility when it comes to virtually anything involving Lucas(arts) these days. :(

Star Wars Galaxies died a horrible, painful death before the destructive NGE was launched. Rumours have it that LucasArts have very little to do with SWG after the NGE ruined it. There were even talks of them walking away and dissolving the entire thing.

This would be great news if it was a new Star Wars MMO. I just hope and pray that they give it the same skill system that SWG had when it came out. It allowed for such a wide range of character templates.

LA created the NGE, it ruined SWG, hopefully they arent dumb enough to try the same trick twice, but these days, i wouldnt put anything past them

Oh pleasey please give it an Eve style of learning skills and space combat with Conan graphics and a huge mother of a research tree like SW:Empires @ War!!

Didn't the original news source about the game say that it had a mmo component, rather than a full-blown MMO? Could turn out to be like the Neverwinter Nights 2.

Still, looking forward to it. :)

Could be the first serious challenge to WOW since its launch if Bioware do their usual magic.
