The government love using these words

So...the reason Gordon Brown is always saying "Stablity of the system" is because he's been told to do that so we subconsciously associate him with stability, not because he's actually talking about the stability of the economic system? Come on, get real.

It's not far from possibility, notice how when bush came along his speeches were fairly different and more robotic than previous presidents, using certain words repeatedly, same with others in government over there, it happens here too just more subtle.

It's not as clear cut as that, and while whether Brown is told what to say for these reasons is debatable, "linguistic programming" or whatever you want to call it is definitely used in the media.

Nigella Express is a great example.

I think i counted Gordon Brown saying Stability , stability of the system like 10 times in a 30min interview :o

He said "these difficult times" about 400 times in a 5 minute interview the other day. It was making me cringe.

"You must remember that we're faced with these difficult times and this government is doing what it can to help families through these difficult times."

"But Prime Minister why did you sell all our gold at the bottom of the market"

"Let's not focus on that, let us instead focus on how we're going to get Britain through these difficult times. Britain has inherited these difficult times from problems in the North American banking system and most countries in Europe are also going through these difficult times"

It was really that bad and it made me want to punch the smug, useless **** even more than I normally do.

Did the interviewer press him anymore about why he sold the gold?

It's criminal that he sold all our nations gold for a few pieces of paper that will one day be worthless while that gold will always have value for centuries to come.

Brown has been doing this for years. When he was Chancellor it used to be be "prudence" every couple of seconds, then "no more boom and bust"

At the moment his spin doctor is briefing him to reinforce the "difficult times" mantra, to deflect any and all blame to someone else entirely and to keep on stating that he is the man to bring "stability" to the system, despite a a very large portion of the blame lying at his door step.
