Hi all,

I & a work colleague were talking about eye surgery as atm I’m paying £300 a year on contacts and spent £270 on glasses , then £15 for eye checks each year £585 total.

So is it worth carrying on like this? if i cancle my contact lenses knowing i was getting surgery i could pay them £25 a month (i'm guessing it costs more per month)

i wouldn’t know who to trust, and what if something bad goes wrong? I’ll be blind for life :E

i used optimax about 6 years ago, had no problems with the surgery or since
went from approx neg 3 in each eye to near 20/20
didnt base my choice on cost though, just wanted shot of glasses and contacts

I have been tempted, but the fact that I will be awake, and will see the scalpel heading for my eye gets a big fat NO ******* WAY from me. (Im -3.75 and -4 and cannot have the simpler one).

I'm fairly sure it would be safe to have the surgery, they do hundreds of the same operations every day. And if you can afford it, it's definitely worth it. Just the thought of having perfect eye sight and not having to worry about contacts/glasses makes it worth it.

Just IMO.

Why would you be awake?

Also, I thought the OP was referring to lazer surgery.

But you are more then likely to require glasses later on in life anyway..

Aye the idea of that scares the hell outta me too.

Because the procedure is performed whilst you are awake. Locally anaesthetised, but awake.

Had my eyes done 3 years ago, it was with a private clinic here in N.Ireland, but Its the best money I've spent ever. The freedom from glasses and contacts is great. If ya can afford it, go for it.

I have heard horror stories too mind you, but its the same with any medical operation really!

They don't just take a scalpel in their hands then slice up the front of your eye, the mechanical method uses a microkeratome, which tbh still does look pretty hideous, or you could get the flap cut with a laser, all you see then are sparkly lights, this is all assuming you are talking LASIK.
If you go LASEK they use alcohol to soften the front of your eye (epithelium), remove it, laser the eye then put it back.
Through all of it stuff is happening so close to your eye that you couldn't focus on it anyway.

Even the description you have piosted makes my cringe. A lot.

I went for a quote on Saturday regarding this.

Cheapest for me would be £1500, most expensive for the uber laser stuff is £3k :(
