FIFA09 - Manager Mode Thread + Guide

Yeah it does seem to be slightly better this year, but in general it isn't as good as it could be.

I'd still rather do it manually that way I know they're getting boosted effectively :)

I'm thinking maybe a good tactic would be to manually assign until you get say defense to 99 then let the computer balance out the rest.

You could do, the problem is that you can't assaign it to individual players, which IMO would be a much better thing.

When a player becomes that good that they're in the high 90's, I wouldn't mind the CPU training him. But when I've still got youngsters that still need my focus I'd like to train those guys manually.

My opinion is still that it would be better to put it on manual, and only even train your players once a season than to leave it on automatic for a full season. After so many years of the CPU being naff at it, I don't trust it to do a good job.... yet ;)

I just went to my contracts section and noticed that some of my players only had a month left on their contracts.

When I go to the renewal section the price is set for how much a renewal is and it's much lower than before. In some case less than half of what they where getting paid. (poor guys in the credit crunch as well)

Is this what you meant by upgraded contracts negiotiators. I thought I was going to have to work the figures out and go back and forth. Glad that's out of my hands, I find that dull :)

So what are you saying you get a set amount of team xp per game and you assign it all to one player as you see fit. Or does each game give a certain amount per player?

Exactly what I meant yep :)

You pay a signing fee upfront, players rated really highly can cost about £1.5m to resign.

The contract length and amount is what the clubs contract staff recommend you offer the player and 9 times out of 10 it's correct.

IIRC - On the right hand side it'll show you his current contract, which could be for 1 month and £70,000. The left hand panel is your (recommended) offer which you can change, the cash should start at half of what he's on automatically so it should say "1 year extension, £35,000".

Remember that the wages is what he'll be getting per game you play, and the length of the contract you offer is added on top of his existing contract which is why you sometimes can only offer them a 1 year contract (it's 1 year, plus whatever he's got left).

No no, I mean that the automatic training would be better if I could select which players are being trained automatically and which ones I train myself.

The players get "points" after each match, how much they get is based on how good your staff are for his position (GK/DF/MF/FW), whether they played in the last game and how well they played in the last game.

Nikebee,

I've just had a look how my stats have been auto assigned this season and I think they have fixed the things you said where wrong with it. The only player that has been assigned freekick points are my freekick taker.

Its auto assigning very nicely. I'm sure you could tweak it better but on the whole it looks good.

Just to confirm danny, I've had it on Auto for a whole season and thought it was going ok, till I realised that Rooney had been given a few goalkeeper points.

Great guide but just one thing.... You talk about maxing out players stats after 8 or 9 seasons.
8 or 9! Do you play every game???

I barely managed one and a half with FIFA 08.
I play every game - is that what I should be doing? I did simulate some but then found myself beating some top teams but then simulating and losing to poor ones (I know this DOES happen , but I dont want it to)!!

I did try dsimulating the first 20 game sof a season and then playing catch up but I missed out on a champs league spot by one point...

lol due to achievement whoring in 08 I never really played MM properly! I just went through it trying to win every game and leaving at the end of the season :P

Ill give this a proper bash once ive done the "win a league without simming a game" add some proper depth to it.

Great Post. Haven't read it all, since i haven't got the game yet, ordering later. Really like management side of footy games so this should help a lot

After playing the first season I've started simming home league games now I have a few decent players. Then i will just play the cup games. Annoyingly I made 8 million simming a few games went to spend it and it had dissapeared as though it wouldn't let me have the simmed cash?

Worked fine again though since.

I play most of them yeah, I've played and finished MM on 07 and 08 :)

50 million player looks like it's going to be tough, quite a few of my players are getting near the mid 90's now and the best one os worth £28 million.

I might just buy Kaka then sell him back again.

Ronaldo is about 97 overall in mine and is with £98m, unless they've patched it recently

Strange none of my players are near that yet, just upgraded howard though and he's now 97 Ovr so he might get close come transfer window. When do you sell keepers?

I took a bad hit on cahill, let him go from 18 million at 30 next time I looked he was 31 and I sold him for £7million :(

I'm simming everything now though apart from Champs leagues games. It doesn't make any difference to your money or the exp you seem to get.

Simming doesn't make a difference at all no :)

The amount you get depends on their positions, Forwards and Wingers are the two most expensive positions in the game.

Defenders are normally relatively cheap in comparison, and Goalkeepers can be around £30m maxed out I think.

When players hit over 30, the only panels that go down are keeping, movement and strength (or physical can't remember the name) panels.

Their actual skills like shooting, passing, crossing, defending and such don't drop.

Keepers can normally stay a few extra years because they don't need as much updated to keep their skills high. His value will probably peak at around 30 years old, the same thing will happen with Howard like it did with Cahill, their values and stats drop a heck of a lot after 30 years old and if you keep them for too long you can sell for thousands instead of millions :-/

The valuation system is a bit borked to be fair, players in the high 70's are still only a few thousand pounds when as soon as you get to about 82 or 84 overall they're worth millions .com

Yeah I have Fellani's stats really high and at 89 he's worth only 6 million. When they go over 90 the money goes through the roof.

Also the market value...

I'm not getting offered anywhere near MV on my players despite having all my staff level 10.

Can't comment on the MV for this years FIFA, I've not sold anyone that good yet, but the majority of the time I'm getting a few grand more than I should be on players in their 80's.

Previous FIFA's used to increase the offer each time you refused an offer.
If Yak was worth £8m and they offered £6m and you refused, go play a game and you'll have a new offer from a different team for about £6.5m... this didn't always happen, but more often than not you could get what you wanted after a few refusals.

Not sure if that still happens in this years FIFA as I've not sold any decent players yet.
