hi guys looking at buying one of these in a few days 2nd hand any thing to look out for ? how do they drive going for the swb version 04 or 05 year

I have one provided by work. Its the normal wheel base, normal height van, with roof rack.

Drives very well, mine is the 73bhp and power delivery is very linear but underpowered, get it going and its OK but need to drop it into 4th to keep at 70mph on long steep hills (M62). It should handle tidy and feel nice and connected to the road with good steering feel, ABS is an option so see if it has it or not.

Im seeing high 30s to the gallon on average fuel wise with a light load the majority of the time.

We have one of the tdci 90bhp ones, and the power delivery on that is all or nothing, and doesnt feel quicker than mine.

Since ive had it the rear wheel arch liners crack and had both sides replaced under warranty from Ford.

The rear door handle broke, so couldnt open the door from the outside, again fixed under warranty, could have been me being a bit rough with it.

For longer trips there is no central armrest which is a pain, and only one 12v supply, so have to chop and change between satnav / itrip.

Apart from that its just been consumables really, brake pads and tyres. Not needed any work done apart from that and mines a 56 plate on 90k. Servicing is every 15k iirc, and isnt cheap at £200 a go!

I've got a Connect T220 LX. 05 plate with 40k, bought it about 2 months ago.

It's a cracking little van! Drives superbly although mine has developed a fault with the central locking at the moment. I've got the 90bhp TDCi and agree with Berger on the power delivery. Drives much better than Fiat Doblos that I've driven in the past.

LX gets a central armrest, electric heated mirrors, heated windscreen etc.

They drive reasonably well. Feels solid enough (on the occasion that I drive the wife's company van). Not quick but enough guts to keep you happy.

Oh one more, the hose from the IC to the TB split, they have a metal coil around the hoses to stop them from expanding i assume. It had over time cut into the hose and had split it causing loss of power and increased fuel consumption.

Again replaced under warranty by Ford.

Used to have one for an old job, they were ok, nice enough to drive around all day. My collegues seemed to go through them though, but they did tend to drive like tools as it wasnt their van.

I drove one for a couple of months. Pretty extensive mileage too, driving from South Shields to my digs in Kent (298 mile trip)

They are pretty decent to drive. The ones I drove were the 220 ones. You do need to rev pretty highly to get going, and also, times when you think you are going fast enough to shift in to 2nd or 3rd, it just kinda screws up on you, ya gotta get a pretty decent speed out of each gear I found.
