Dawn Of War 2 new vid GO WATCH

Looks fantastic from a gameplay and graphics point-of-view, also the combat seems to be more in-line with the fluff:
E.g. 2 squads equiped with heavy bolters will no longer just stand there face to face pumping each other full of lead for 30 seconds and still be standing :p

My only worry will be that the campaign will be 75-80% skirmish maps again :( which really ruined Dark Crusade for me. Don't get me wrong it was alright I just enjoyed the original and Winter Assault so much more (and I absolutely hated Soul Storm, but Relic very little to do with it... so not much I can complain about there ;))

The perfect solution for me would be to do a campaign like Winter Assault (Good Army Campaign and Evil Army Campaign), each about 7 or 8 missions long and let you select which ever army you want to be for each one (depending on their alignment of course) and just change the cutscene's+objectives for each mission depending on which Race you have chosen. Then just include the Risk style Meta-game as an extra just like skirmish mode.

C&C 3 Kane's Wrath did the above (Mission based Campaign with a Meta style game type as a extra), so I can't see why Relic couldn't do the same and then everyone is happy.

I'm assuming this is only in the single player right? Because i dont know how that rpg style customisation will translate into skirmish games against people. They may just leave it out entirely and just have good old nameless squads whom i care not when they go ccharging head first into an avatar.

Thank god the squad leader doesnt die - I was worried that if the whole squad died then you would not be able to upgrade them. At least with the squad leaders merely incapacitated you can continue to upgrade the squad as a whole.

looks cool to me :) I like the way they've done the RPG style elements for single player, not sure how these fit into multiplayer though? Maybe you get a certain amount of points to spend before they battle, or gain them during the battle for experience etc?

I hope it's not all small, slow straightfoward fights like those shown in the video. I like the introduction of more rpg elements like squad advancements and more skills etc.

The slow paced, small scale fights look boring compared to the first game though. Also the easy mode of squad leaders and therefore squads never being able to die is weak, I hope there's an option to disable that. It covers up poor level design and balance issues if it's a necessary feature.

It brings Cannon Fodder back to mind, it was a great feeling to have soldiers survive missions and get better weapons but when they died it was really painful, you lose that connection and interactivity with the little men on screen if you know they are immortal. In fact it seems to make the extra strategic gameplay pointless because why worry about strategy if you can just raise dead?
