If I set the starting bid on ebay no-one can bid lower right?

I'm just checking this as I don't want to be unexpectedly surprised if I set it for £60 and then someone bids £5. I know it sounds stupid, and I am 99.9% confident that no-one can bid below the starting price I set, but I am really tight for money and I can't afford to be screwed over because I didn't double check.

Nope. If you set the starting bid as £60 then thats the lowest bid that can be made. High starting bids can put people off though. I once listed an item about 3 times with a starting bif of £100 and got no bids. I then went all-in and listed it at 99p and had loads of bids. I think it sold for £130-£140.

Thank you, blame my paranoia for asking a relatively silly question. I'll try setting the price lower too to see if it does better this time!

set a lower starting price and use a reserve to make sure it doesn't go for peanuts.

This is the thing with eBay recently - fantastic for buyers, but utter **** for sellers. Constant pillaging of wallets by eBay and Paypal. It's a total joke.

start low and set a reserve is the best way as you get more people interested if you start low.

personally no matter how much i want or expect for the item i put everything on for 1p with no reserve. this has included a guitar that went for over £450 and a wii bundle that went for over £300. also items finishing at decent times and especially weekends tend to go for more.

also be weary of who bids, i try to ensure people message me if they have little feedback. i also got an offer for £130 for an auction at £180 because they could collect it!

id also mention you only sell to uk/england as your very likely to get some nigerian bidding! as said above ebay is going downhill recently especially with all the dodgey bids.

I dont bid or watch items with reserves

I have lost count how many times i have bid and the item has not got over the reserve price, now i just dont bother. (if you dont know the reserve price you dont know if you can bid high enough... why bother when the seller could be a dreamer)

At least with a high starting price you know that if you bid you have a chance at winning it.
