Its been a long time since I used some decks, but the idea of getting a setup going on my pc in the future is kind of appealing. Its rather impressive the way in which this technology has came on.

http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/k5sURdbje1dCzWKOiu (The S word is uttered once in mid sentance, nothing you wouldnt normally hear in day to day conversation)

Check out Richie Hawtin explaining and showing through some of the features and its possible uses. Looks like a lot of fun. Hard to master I imagine.

Tell me what you budding DJs think. It was sad seeing the move away from vinyl, but we are seeing and hearing a lot of more complex sets these days.

Hope you enjoy the vid, I thought it was rather interesting :)

technology is definetly making things a lot easier for people

taking daft punk as an example. theyre 1997 liveshow was done using all the hardware studio equipment set up on the stage timed manually to perfection, god knows how long they spent perfecting it. the 06/07 one made all the same sounds but just using a computer and a few touchscreens

the only problem with it all is that for every DJ/live act that technology does wonders for there is someone just being made lazy by it.

Yeah thats true, but what Richie Hawtin says is also very true too, he can use the time that the PC frees up, to manipulate more samples, loops and tracks etc.

gives him the ability to construct a very complex set, and also collaborate with people over ethernet to add even more diversity to it.

I think traktor and programs similar might make basic things a lot easier, but in order to use them to their full potential you still need to be on the ball, and you certainly arent left standing about while the program mixes for you.

If you want to give the best most diverse set, youve gotta be ontop of it, tweaking, adding and shuffling things about.

In the future i think i might invest in some of it and have a go

Looks interesting, glad to see he's using Traktor like me :)

Sweary in the vid though

nice way to detonate an otherwise interesting thread. I think he only says the poo word once. Not exactly an issue

Thats all well and good, but the allen and heath mixer and controllers cost MEGA money. I'd love to have them though, awesome bit of kit.

There's an F in there as well if we're gonna be picky.

Didn't want to destroy the thread at all, just thought I'd warn. Next time I won't help.

Oh i didnt realise you were helping. The video is informative, Interesting, and shows the features and some insight into what we might otherwise frown on if we were watching them in a club.

I understand the reason behind moderating videos that have excessive swearing. But this guy is talking us through everything nicely, and he might swear once or twice in 10 minutes, but its nothing that people wouldnt hear anywhere.. be it school, work, in the street etc.

Drawing attention to stuff that most people wouldnt even comment on only helps in killing a thread that has a good video worth watching

its not really helping because i doubt any dons would have watched that full video

yea i know richie hawtin uses it to its potential and so do a lot of others.

theres also a lot of people whove never DJed the proper way before just using technology to do it for them aswell. and sadder thin is that many of them are big producers who only get dj bookings because of theyre name

im trying to find a similar video of someone explaining theyre ableton setup but i cant find it :/

Van Dyk was using pretty much same setup in Amnesia along with his midi keyboards, obviously he was using it with Ableton though.

Yeah Ableton is the one in main use, but i think traktor is adding more and more useful features. I think its gonna become more popular

Sorry, I only mentioned in case people were watching it in a work environment, kids around etc.

Back on topic, it was interesting to see how he uses it in sync with Traktor etc

Wow i really like the idea of collaborative DJing at the end, does anyone know if it's possible to set up ableton in a similar way?

yea, dont think its tracktor that does that i think its another piece of software doign it in the background ?

it just makes all the laptops play at the same BPM and in sync controlled by a master. in theyre live shows theyre all mostly using software instruments and samples so its a bit like when for live dance music shows people would have to manually sync up all the drum machines and other hardware etc

plenty of videos on you tube of hawtin and houle djing together with a macbook each

1997 is anything but perfectly timed lol. Have you ever tried to beat match with it?, horrible!.

Agreed, Traktor is quite good, I've been using it on and off for a few years now, of course it's no-where near as fun or interesting as a pair of 1200's and a sampler. But it's a damn sight cheaper to top up with new music!.

but all the hardware is synced with each other. its the tempo of it all constantly changing together that makes it un-beatmatchable.

may be bias though as its easily my favourite piece of live music ever . its just ridiculous that its all played live
