KotOR MMO announcement rumored to be coming soon

This would be great news if it was a new Star Wars MMO. I just hope and pray that they give it the same skill system that SWG had when it came out. It allowed for such a wide range of character templates.

I am too hoping for this, it would be serious amounts of awesomeness.

That's what they said about LOTRO and Age of Conan.

They weren't written by bioware. The IP isn't as important as the developer. I think its unlikely if im honest but if any developer/IP combo looks like a challenger on paper its Bioware + Starwars.

Yeah I'd much prefer a KotOR 3 single player than a MMORPG. However, I do miss the MMORPG scene and the Old Republic days of the Star Wars universe probably has the greatest setting for a videogames ever, especially a Star Wars MMORPG as there can be as many Jedi and Dark Jedi as you want (No moaning from Star Wars storyline fanatics.)

The potential is there, but sadly the story wont compare to a standalone RPG.

Still looking forward to it though

Bioware have an excellent reputation, MMO or not. I trust in them 100%

Hmm..they're good at very specific things though. The good / evil paths through games, character classing and development. Single player RPGs are really all they've ever gotten involved in.

They've never had to deal with MMO type development and the rabid-dog fanbase that goes with it. That and Lucasarts sticking their paws in mucking things up could still ruin it.

I sincerely hope it's a success, but I don't want another mmo with thousands of jedi running around because that's what everyone wants to be. SWG is beyond a joke if you log on now.

I kind of felt sorry for the people who worked to be a jedi in SWG pre-cu for EONS then that patch came along and everyone was one...

Shame really. I for one don't know how they'd manage to turn it into an mmo to be honest.

From the thread ages ago it mentioned a MMO aspect. I do wonder if they don't build one massive MMO world, have a single player portion of the game, essentially Kotor 3, then have the same world, probably some area's added to every section and have the follow up story to the single player as the start of the MMO.

Basically, WoW would be fairly difficult as it doesn't really have a main story line you follow throughout the game, just a background horde vs alliance war that you don't really partake in the story. But Lotro, single player, scaled bad guys, it could easily be made into a single player game, and follow an alternate story line to the one in the game and the film but still be based on the same world.

THe time to implement an engine and design a world is massive, quests and story line can be made quite easily. IN the case of Lotro, changing the health on enemies and adding in a new main storyline to follow would be pretty damn simple as everythings there and ready for it to be done.

I think if Kotor 3 worked that way it could be immense, Kotor 1/2 were just brilliant in terms of story, playing a decent sequal would be great and being able to continue playing a follow up story as an MMO would be pretty damn good aswell.

As someone said earlier, Dragon Age is coming for single player fanatics (spiritual successor to BG? Yes pelase!) so this announcement will probably be an MMO.

Course it's going to be an mmo - if done properly the potential revenue would be huge, and that's what will drive the decision, unfortunately.
