Man Utd - Best Squad Ever?

Well, for a start Neville has never been 'constantly' injured, he's had one major injury.
Rafael is a brilliant player (for his age) and will develop well.
Brown is a quality RB, people still slate him, but he wouldn't be at United if he wasn't a top defender. He's start for almost every team in the EPL.
(Chelsea and Arsenal being those where he wouldn't).

Overall, possibly stronger, especially given the age of our team, but I'd still take Schmeichel, Cantona, Solskjaer, Sheringham, Cole, Stam and Keane in their prime without any second thoughts.

Exactly my thoughts.

I think this team is close, but I still think Cantona is the best player to pull on a United shirt in the last 20 years, and we'll never replace Keane or the Great Dane.

For that reason i'd give it to the '98 team.

Its ok saying it on paper but the Premiership its getting harder every year unless you are Spurs....

They have a great team but putting that power week in week out is not easy, when the CL kicks in its a different story for every team.

Man United have a great team and not retaining the league will be a massive failure.

You dont half talk some ****

The Prem is harder every year unless you're Spurs, right ok...............

Well obviously the CL is going to make things difficult for the teams in it

Aye it will be a massive failure if we dont win it 3 times in a row as winning 2 out of 3 is classed as a massive failure nowadays i suppose

Could someone quote this so the plank can see how much of an idiot he is

I think it is probably the most complete squad, the strength in depth is terrifying! I agree that that midfield isn't quite as good as the 1999 team, and Schmeichel is the best keeper we have ever had, but I really don't think we have ever had a better defence than we do now, and arguably the same goes for the strikers too.

In terms of the midfield Ronaldo is better than Beckham ever was, Scholes isn't as good as he used to be but is still good, nobody can match Keano, and Nani is not at the same level that Giggs was at (maybe one day though?!).

Ronaldo - Gerrard - Masc - Babel

Babel isn’t getting into the team is because of the Kuyt.

HAHAHA, so hang on a minute...shouldn't Kuyt be there instead then, if you're saying he's keeping Babel out of the Liverpool team? :D

Gerrard and Ronaldo are both no brainers imo - but after that you could argue that either team has players who could make one of the other two places in a 4 man midfield.

However overall Liverpool have not come close to catching up Man U for midfield quality imo.

Carrick - £18 million not keen but as a squad player he's better than someone like Kleberson

How any sane UTD fan cannot see Carrick's value to the team and his all round ability I'll never know

I honestly think Liverpools midfield is better. Trying to give an neutral opinion is hard but I think its true;

Babel / Masc / Gerrard / Riera

Subs; Alonso, Lucas.

I would only swop Ronaldo.

Seriously lol to that

Ronaldo > Bable
Giggs & Nani > Riera
Scholes > Mascherano - albeit yours is obviously way more defensive minded and Scholesy still does get forward every now and again
Ok I'll give you Gerrard over Carrick

Oh and Anderson > Lucas, and as far as making an impact on the game both Fletcher and Hargreaves over Alonso although obviously Alonso's technical ability is better than both but he just doesn't ever seem to make an impact on a game

It would surely be:
Carrick > Mascherano
Gerrard > Scholes.

The former play the defensive roles and the latter the attacking. I'd take Alonso over Fletcher too.

Fletcher shouldn't be a Utd player, IMO. But as above, I'd still use Gerrard/Scholes myself though.

The team now has more individual players that are highlights, but the older team was definitely better. Be nice to see Schmeichel, Beckham, Keane etc to mix it up with the team atm.

I think Fletcher is invaluable to our team. Never complains, always willing to step in when players are missing and works very hard. He's put in some great performances for us when we've really needed it and is still fairly young.

Gerrard, Masch, Alonso >*

Ronaldo's a no brainer but all the other wingers from either side haven't done anything to warrant a definant place.

Beckham, Keane, Scholes, Giggs was better than anything we could hope to field now.

+1

i consider the current arsenal squad miles away from the unbeatables of 03/04 and we were still within grasp come the end of the season.

the utd squad is deep and has quality but i think it's definitely better suited for europe than the league and that midfield above was just mind blowing at times.

I personaly think this is Man Utd best team. Obviously Sir alex has built a few team over the years.

But this team has everything imo. But thats just me.

Mascherano has done nothing, he's just an annoying little ankle biter, never understood those raving about him like he's the best DMC in the EPL. He's not in the class of someone like Essien, doesn't have the game of someone like Carrick, but he is better than Obi Mikel. He's a good player, potentially a very good player, but Liverpool fans do get carried away with him.

Of those you listed, only Gerrard would start at Man Utd, the others would make the bench though. I do like Alonso as a person and admire his attitude on a pitch, but he's a little too one dimensional, lacking any pace to trouble sides.
