ive just ordered the above card from another etailor.

i will be upgrading from a 8800gtx, and basically want to run crysis, and Far cry 2 at my native res of 1650x1050 maxed out.

will i be able to do it with this card? or should i cancel and wait for a newer card?

You made a wise choice. The 280 is the best single GPU out there and top dog for Crysis.

Just finished Warhead at 1920x1200 with all settings on enthusiast apart from Post and Shadows on gamer.

I'm very impressed with my 8800gt so far, it runs crysis great, so i can't even imagine how powerful the gtx280 must be!

I made the same upgrade as you and I'm very happy. At your res you probably could have saved some money with a lower performing card but what the heck!

I'd be interested if you tell us what sort of temps you get.

Everyone always says to save some money by going to a card for that can suit the monitor naive res but would struggle at higher res's.. I would have gone for the same if i didn't have a x38 mobo

Might as well get a card that will run all games comfortably at native res with good fps rather than one you find yourself dropping graphic quality down the line when newer are games are out.

Not starting an argument just the way i see it :) hell i'm still thinking of cross-firing my card soon (once my finances get sorted out-damn card fraud :() but everyone would say its a waste at 1680 res :p

I've got 3 of em.

My only advice is buy the cheapest one you can find and overclock it yourself.

THEY ARE ALL IDENTICAL.

All 3 of my babies are running @ 730/2600/1470 and they were all stock timing cards.

**Edit** Anyone noticed the prices for these going up again? I paid £200 plus VAT for a Leaftek card from OCUK just over a week ago.

They're all similar but BFG claim to test its whole supply of gpus from nvidia and only use the 5-10% most o.c.able for its ocx range.

Great card and top scores in crysis.

Well, all mine were 602, 1296 & 2214... all are fitted with Danger Den Tieton's (same as BFG's block) and now faster than the BFG H2OC. ;)

Makes it all the more rewarding IMHO.

is that with unlinked core and shader? because from testing my 260 I get worse performance than stock if I OC unlinked.

I want a 280 not paying £300 for one though, especially knowing people a few months earlier got one for around £200.

I'm so tight, lol.

You are absolutely right, the prices should be going down, not up.

Also got an e-mail from Nvidia today, offering a "mail in rebate" on certain models purchased (US only). No chance of anything like that happening in rip-off Britain.
