I hope this is not so.

..suddenly plunged thousands of feet, hurling unbuckled passengers against the cabin roof

Awesome image.

As ^^ says, just trying to pass blame. How could laptops and DS's possibly cause an autopilot system to crash. I don't see computer screens flickering when I walk round an office with a laptop on.

Actually a reasonably strong signal from wi-fi could interfere with a plane's navigation system, but it seems unlikely that a laptop or DS would have that amount of power.

Nice reading though, I have a 6 hour flight tomorrow!

The cause of the accident, which came as the crew tried to correct a reported fault in the aircraft's elevator control system,

More likely something to do with that maybe ?!

Purely sensationalist headline with no further mention in the article. I would've expected more from the Torygraph.

Passengers whose belts were not buckled, including babies and young children, were thrown against the cabin roof, smashing into roof panels and luggage lockers.

"It was horrendous, absolutely gruesome, terrible, the worst experience of my life," said Jim Ford, of Perth, who said he thought he was going to die.

There were reports of people being pinned against the roof of the cabin as the passenger jet hurtled a reported 6,000 ft towards the ground.

WOW that must have been a terrible thing to of witnessed/experienced, bet there's a few people that won't be doing air travel again after that, I know I certainly wouldn't.

It's not like your car sat nav goes wrong when a passenger in the car next to you is on a laptop, is it?

Guys, seriously.. I'm not trying to implicate that Laptops / Wi-Fi had anything to do with it, but how the hell can you compare an advanced aeroplane navigation system with a car sat nav, or a computer in an office? An aircraft has hundreds of systems monitoring all sorts of advanced technologies.

No, it's not very likely that an electronic device was the cause, but an aeroplane hardly uses the same technology as any other everyday device you'd use..

Unless you're Scuzi of course..

In some respects, it's a good demonstration of why you should always leave your lap-belt in place whilst seated (as I already do).

Had they been wearing their seatbelts, how many of the injuries could have been avoided? All flights I've ever been on tell you to keep them fastened.

If a laptop could do this, why would there be power points in first class flights to plug a laptop in? As someone else said, pure sensationalist journalism at it's best.

Agreed.. but surely if they're more 'advanced' then surely they should be, well, more advanced? And not susceptible to laptop interference.

I can't believe that personal electronic equipment could cause that by accident, if they even though that then they would stop all future passengers from taking that sort of thing on future flights.

Must've been horribly scary for everyone on the plane. I experienced a small amount of turbulence on the way to Florida last summer and that was enough to make me feel uncomfortable.

You'll see the mail tomorow "40 indian terrorists hijacked quatas jet with laptops"

I would have bricked it, sparked up a fag and grabbed the nearest drink I could find, if i'm dying i'm making the most of it.
I turn off my wifi and bluetooth on a plane anyway, saves battery..

Hmm in all the newspapers it was reported that the plane fell 350 feet before regaining control. But now its THOUSANDS!!!!!!

Dropped 2 kms from what has been said down here

Since Qantas had the door blow off pretty much every little problem that causes a delay is reported.

Even right down to Qantas Delaying a flight to check a fuel line(Or a loose nut and bolt or something minor that happens to all companys) got reported in the papers with the bad maintanence hype all around it=/
