Best drummer in the world *

I'll go with Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, Dave Lombardo, Jimmy Chamberlain and Danny Carey. I'd like to know more about jazz drummer as I've always admired some of the genre's luminaries yet unfortunately know nothing about it.

People who cite Dave Grohl are obviously the types that vote for Kurt Cobain as the 'best guitarist ever' in those magazine polls.

Yea hes got no groove worth talking about

Pretty much. Adler's pretty average.

Tomas Haake has sick groove, though

Gene Hoglan's groove is awesome, too

Except Dave's actually a decent, talented player.
Nothing like one of the greats, but he's definitely one of the better ones out there in the mainstream rock scene

Bernard Purdie .. lemme 'splan something to ya's. This really got me into drumming. Some like him, some don't but you can't not stop and say he makes it fun.
Samba time teaching and finally ... get into this groove In japan
It's only now I realise that I'm actually playing some of the these grooves as if they were locked away..

Clyde Stubblefield - the drummer that James Brown called "The Funky Drummer".
My favourite song to play along to is Cold Sweat (James Brown), this is it live in '68 - Clyde's drum solo @ 4:20+ is minimal.. but just great timing.
An inspiration to me and taught me there's more to drumming than hitting faster, harder and more drums.. it's what you don't put in is just as important.

Andrea Vadrucci - another serious inspiration. Expanding beyond and into Orchestral - note the reverse tom toms which is a sign of classical training... who'd have though you could get finger-blasts in the Barber of Seville..

Seen a few real good shouts in this thread but I have to say that these two guys even though I’m not a fan of their musical genre cant be beaten, pardon the pun, for the best EVAAAAAAAAA!

In no particular order.

Buddy Rich

Gene Krupa (pronounced crooper)

Buddy and Gene duelling

Copeland trails a good 2nd to these guys simply due to his syncopation IMO.

.

Chris Adler encapsulates exactly how i feel about metal drummers. they're too busy hitting drums as hard as they can to worry about dynamics.

IMO and all that..

- this is how it should be

Not that I know that much about drumming, but he's quite clearly not bashing the hell out the drums, infact he never does, he just makes it look very natural and easy.

I suppose it's mostly just that there are that many bands like that so it doesn't really seem that unique in comparison. And as that isn't my favorite music I'm naturally predigest against it... i suspects thats mostly it..

Probably Buddy Rich, but I don't think it's easy to say who's best because its all subjective anyway.

I love how Jose Pasillas fits into Incubus.
