I would imagine its if your using memory that is specific to SLI boards which normally allows it to run at above its normal ratings but stay within waranty..
I have only briefly played around with an Nvidia based chipset and tbh sent it back as it was a pain in the arse! but from what I have read you should beable to get 3ghz out of your Q6600
First thing to do is to download coretemp and see what VID it reports for the CPU... go into the BIOS and set the CPU Voltage to that number... Next make sure your RAM is running at the correct voltage (as specified by the manufacture).. and that the timmings are correct
Set the FSB and Multiplier to 267 and 9.. this is stock I know but just check the machine boots fine.. run prime95 small ffts and a blend for 30 mins or so each check everything is stable..
Next you just need to start raising the FSB a little at a time.. run prime95 for 15 mins on each raise if it passes raise it some more if not up the vcore a couple of notches and try again until you get to the clock that you want..
I cant see that you should have to change anything else off auto to get 3ghz although someone with more experience with that board might beable to offer a better insight
