On my ever hopeful checking of lottery numbers tonight I was surprised to see the numbers that were drawn.

They were: 20 21 23 24 27 28

With these numbers I thoguh oh well looks like another rollover !

How wrong

11 winners un-real or what.

Good luck to them btw

People often pick number patterns on the playslip - after all the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 have just as much chance as any others of winning the lottery. If you want a big win then of course you should avoid such popular numbers.

It's the first ever lottery with all six main numbers being the same colour too.

And for all the geeks in the house, the next one is 1337.

Chance of your numbers coming up are the same as them being 1 2 3 4 5 6.

How wierd would that be?

As long as numbers drawn are below 31 then there is always a very good chance it will be won.
Remember people choose birthdays for lottery numbers - so tonights draw was ripe for winning.

I put two lines on a week. One midweek, the other Saturday. I haven't even managed to win a tenner in months. And I won't change my numbers or get a lucky dip, because with my luck, the day I do will be the day my original numbers come up. But by that logic, the day I don't pick a lucky dip will be the day the person behind me in the queue gets a lucky dip and their numbers come up. And all the time I'm starring at the cashier with this going on inside my head and I cry a little.

Its very simplistic looking at it as

1 in 49 x 1 in 49.... etc

There will be further calculations to take into account frequency previously drawn, likelihood of consecutive numbers etc

I'm sure you're all right about equal chance and I'm way out, could you mathematically prove it to me...surely for a sequence it would HAVE to follow a set pattern which is less chance of a random pattern, surely? i.e. we have 1 number say 6, the next would HAVE to be in the small range to make the sequence whereas a random pattern could be ANY number from 1-49.
