Tonights lottery numbers

It's not random though is it! Since when has, what is effectively a tumble dryer, been able to produce a random number? Numbers 1-41 balls are dropped into the tumble dryer the same way every time meaning the balls on the outside get spun around a lot more than the balls on the inside. I think there are far too many variables too say that 1,2,3,4,5,6 has the chance as 2,3,4,5,6,7.

I reckon there will be lots of winners tbh. As said above, people like to pick patterns on the tickets, and it's possible that someone chose those.

surely the 123456 chance is lower because you have to take into account it must be sequential? its gotta be more likely that if number 1 was drawn the chance of 2 to be drawn next would be 1 in 48 yet the chance of it not being 2 is 47 in 48

or even in the case of 1-6 theres still only a 5 in 48 chance of it being 2-6 yet a 43 in 48 chance of it not being 2-6.

i know in theory its the same but for it to be 6 in a row must have massivly worse odds then it not to be.

please correct me if im wrong! (or just talking jibberish.. it is nearly 3 am though)

I think I'm right in saying...

Just because 1 and 2 and 3 are next to each other, means nothing when they're being thrown around inside that thing.

Every number has the same odds of coming out, be it in the order of 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 or 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 or 11,22,33,44,5,6.

Sequences dont have less chance of coming out, they have an equal chance as any other order of numbers.

It's wrong - they are always in sequence because they sort them in order afterwards

It doesn't surprise me that a lot of people have got money out of numbers all being below 31. As someone else said, it's quite common for people to use numbers that are important to them, ie dates.

Huh? What makes you even think that, let alone say it?

whenever there's a thread about a big draw, a few people invariably say that picking randomly is better than choosing a specific string, especially if you forget or decide not to buy a ticket one week.

While the trajectory of a particular ball in a particular machine can be expressed using simple laws of projectile motion, they, like dice, can be reasonably described as a source of true random numbers. Remember also that they have multiple sets of balls and multiple machines, also selected randomly (usually by lucky dip), and that all the balls are regularly measured and any which do not meet the required tolerances are rejected.

Over an infinite sample set a statistical analysis of a truly random sequence should be uniform, but over a smaller set of results perturbations are normal, resulting in some numbers having a higher frequency than others. This irregular frequency distribution does not imply a flaw in the randomness of the lottery unless the sample size is sufficiently large. Remember that only 0.0096% of all possible winning permutations have been drawn to date.

Its very simplistic looking at it as

1 in 49 x 1 in 49.... etc

There will be further calculations to take into account frequency previously drawn, likelihood of consecutive numbers etc

That's wrong, as once a ball has been drawn, there are n-1 balls remaining. So it should be 1 in 49 x 1 in 48 x 1 in 47 etc...

do you think the 11 people that won are happy

while 700k is nice i would really be annoyed if i could have won 7.5mil but instead had to share it with 10 other people

I bet you'd get a really small slice of the jackpot if 1,2,3,4,5,6 did actually come up - loads of people probably use that for which ever reason.
