I recieved a new BFG 280 GTX OC from OcUK yesterday and it appears that it is fualty. The card idles at 86 deg c and rises to over 111 dec c when I tried the folding@home application, this swiftly followed by the card shutting down and the system hanging. I only get about 10 sec of game play out of COD4 before the card shuts down again. The fan is working rather hard to keep the card at 86 deg c but sounds like a jump jet as soon as it needs to do a bit of work....

My system specs are as follows:

Core 2 E8400 @ 3.5Ghz
P5N-T Delux
MEM - 4 x 1 GB OCZ PC2-8500
GPU - BFG 280 GTX OC (178.13)
Corsair 1000W
Vista 64

I have both power cables (1 x 6 and 1 x 8) connected, but i dont think this is a power issue. I have an RMA number from OcUK but am not able to send the card untill Monday. Before I do so i just want to check that I have not forgoten something stupid. Any thoughts on why it would be dong this, is there a way to fix it without RMA / voiding the warenty? I would hazard a guess that the fan is not mounted properly or the chip is just pants! Have I been sold a turkey?

I'm gutted, I got a Benq 24" with the 280 GTX and now I have to put my 7900GTX back in....I dont think it's going to cope very well.

How does this RMA thing work. I pay for the postage back to the shop, if the card is faulty they send me a new one free of charge. How do I clam the initial postage costs, or is that just the way the game is played?

OcUK should refund the postage, they did with me.

Fax the receipt to them.

i had to rma a mobo last week OCUK paid for the postage aswell as refunding the mobo very good honest company.
just make sure in your rma notes you mention the cost of the postage and you will get refunded

Identical problems with my 1st BFG GTX280. The new card arrived by return, excellent service. As stated it seems amazing that these faulty cards are still going through the system.

Makes me wonder if BFG are repackaging these returned cards knowing that some people wont be testing them the way we do!

The BFG OC range are always like this

I always used to have to RMA at least 2 b4 i got one that would run to spec!!

I think they just flash the cards with an OC Bios & never bother to check if it can handle it......

Can a change of bios make a card overclock better?

The card was faulty and a refund was given. I have added a bit more money to the pot and have got a BFG 280 H2O as a replacement. Forgot to ask about refund for p&p on the rma, will try a little later on. Will post the results
