spec a £2k fast car

Hi all,

My mate is after a fast car, preferably a saloon so he can ferry his friends and family about but only has £2k to spend.

Any suggestions??

Volvo T4 or T5? might get one for around that price and they are quite pokey.

Something that goes as quick as possible for the money? He wants something a bit sporty, he currently has a mk2 golf with a 1.8T engine in it so something with a bit more poke than that!

He has just messaged me saying he is looking at impreza's.

You will probably get this for £2k, it will be outputting around the 280 mark, the ad is wrong, but can easily be brought up to the figures quoted with some simple breathing mods. You won't get much faster for £2k. 60 in under 6 seconds as standard, will do 180 id de-restricted, handling is good. Problems are that they ost £50k new and have the running costs associated and that it doesn't feel *that* fast below a ton. Oh and the rear seats are useful for transporting dwarves but are present.

Will he get a decent impreza for that sort of price? Imagine it would be a bit of a shed. Just noticed he has a 1.8t in his golf, is it remapped? If so i doubt 2k will get you anything faster.

Is he budgeting £2k for a fast car because his money is that tight? Does he have a budget allocated to running costs? I'm going to bet that if that is all he can budget then he isn't going to be able to afford the running costs of a sports car, especially when it is likely to be old (read high maintenance).

Can't see that being any quicker than the Mk2 Golf with the 1.8T engine he currently has tbh.

Presumably he can't be worried about reliability or running costs if he is looking at quick cars on this sort of budget, so I'll suggest a Fiat Coupe 20VT

IIRC 0-60 in ~7secs and lots of pull at the higher end.

It's very unlikely he will get a quicker car for 2k.. Only slower and probably a money pit..

Volvo is the only brand i would suggest but it will be slower..
