Anyone with 8GB RAM who upgraded from 4GB?

i upgraded from Corsair 4x1GB =4GB to Ocz 4x2GB = 8GB and wee bit difference in 3D Gaming which loading up very quickly ( I used 2xGF9600 XXX as SLi mode). also very quick load up Fx 3 but not all of it that make any difference just some of it but still very fast to load up games,etc.. like open any application softwares and shutdown Vista 64 is very fast that about few second.

my m/board max RAM is 16GB (I used GBT M59SLI-S5 for AM2) so I dont think I got for higher RAM - I wait for new AM3 due coming after Xmas.

If x58 wasn't coming out soon I would have got 8GB just for the sake of it as DDR2 is pretty cheap but its a waste now. I'll probably go for 6GB with Nahalem as theres no other sensible option really, 3GB too little and 12GB way too expensuve.

Ive got 4Gb and I tried switching off the paging file as an experiment and when i ran Crysis, an error message appeared stating that there was not enough memory available, so i always assumed having 8gb would avoid the need for paging for things like games where you really want things to be as fast as possible. Would i still get the same error message with 8Gb then? If not, surely there would be some benefit of more ram.

Many peeps don't have a clue how Memory and Page File work.

Always use a Page File its needed 99.9% of the time.

No matter how many times the same boring questions are asked and answered it does not seem to sink in.

My question is anyone running, or know anyone running 8GB on an Asus P5N32-E mobo?
Its a pain as is to get 4 working, so 8 might be asking a bit much but im just curious really.

I have not noticed much diffference going from 4GB to 8GB on an Asus Rampage. Vista64 still eats it all and requires the pagefile. Also, it take an extra few seconds to boot Vista whilst the system checks the memory (bios flash screen is displayed for longer).

8GB = not yet needed. But decent memory is Sssooooo cheap at the moment.

Think that abit unfair, i think people only ask if they've never read about it before. Only thing i've read before on this subject is someone recommending switching off the paging file, hence my question.

How does a paging file get used that RAM doesnt then? All i've ever been taught is that a page file is used to ease the amount RAM being used (leaving a reserved amount for processing), so applying that theory, the more RAM you have, the less chance you have of needing a page file to releave the RAM. Im not saying this is right, its just what i was taught. If you can tell us how it actually works, i would be very interested to learn, as im sure many others would be.

THAT'S what SEARCH is for, so we don't have 100 threads the same but we do.

I cannot explain in Tech or Laymans terms for you to understand, do what I do and read up on it.

I have already stated if you read Corsairs review on 8GB you will see it still Pages (avail here in this section using SEARCH). :)

100% agree with helmut.

i'm tired of telling people on here to leave their pagefile enabled.

I'm tired of :

1) 32bit OS or 64bit OS.

2) Dual Core or Quad Core.

3) 2GB or 4GB.

4) 4x1GB or 2x2GB

5) My CPU keep lowing speed by itself.

There are more but Mr Spie must need 10x the HDD space on the server just for all the DUPED Q's we get here every week.

Just my tuppenceworth - I'm running Vista x64 on an eVGA 780i SLI. It will not run with any degree of stability with all four slots populated. I was running with 4 x 2GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer - the good stuff, not the garbage they've been churning out over recent months. I've seen every memory-related BSOD in existance. Removed two modules and it's as solid as a rock.

This isn't just me, either. The eVGA forums are full of people with similar problems. As a bit of a hint, when you start up a system with all four slots populated, the BIOS warns you that SLI mode is not available with four sticks installed - that's memory SLI, ie EPP, just in case you're confused about memory/graphics SLI nomenclature.

Anyway, EPP is guaranteed not to work on a fully populated 780i. Sadly, it doesn't run with any degree of stability at stock speeds either - hell, I've underclocked and undervolted without any noticeable change in stability.

Sorry, this turned into a bit of a rant - this rig set me back over 3 grand not too long ago; it would be nice if it just worked :/

To be fair, if you didnt bother to reply, then you'd also be saving server space :p Plus, if they get no replies, they will be more inclined to use the search facility. Only reason i asked was because the thread was already started and fairly well established with responses.
I agree that people should search prior to asking a question, and as a general rule i do, but if im to join an established discusion (thread) then adding my experience and then asking a question isnt really wasting server space as ive added some (albeit small) personal experience which infact backs up your arguement ;) :p

True to a degree, but after XXXXXXXXXX times of same BS it gets boring. :)
