I'll be upgrading my cpu soon for my main pc (kinda hoping for a bargain from our MM) and will be building my first media centre. Will my current cpu be up to the job or will the small cache let it down?
More than enough.
I've got one in a Media Centre and its great, although its clocked at 3GHz, even at stock you'll be fine with HDWMV and HD mkv's. I assume you'll have a graphics card (or 780G moatherboard etc.) to decode HD-DVD / Blueray?
I'll prob build the htpc around small form or desktop so it doesn't take up too much room. I suppose £50 will buy me a decent enuf mb (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...(Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard) and have a looksie at the 46xx series or secondhand 38xx
E2180 is a good chip.
I have it inside my gaming PC.![]()
