Hi, I'm currently in the process of trying to get a Migration Code from AOL. With them recently being taken over by Talk Talk i have been moved to the Talk Talk servers. This means that my speed on my 8Mb line has got considerably slower especially at peak times. This never happened before the move to different servers. I used to get 800Kb-900kb download speeds but now im limited to around 300Kb. The internet cannot be used at peak times because it is slower then dial up.

Now I've got in contact with them about this issue and have told them i want a Migration Code. They say they will send me one within 5 days. Now the following link http://www.ofcom.org.uk/advice/codes/bb_migration/ suggests that they have 5 days to provide me with a written form of my MAC. I was under the impression that if i requested it over the telephone they have to give me it upon request. Where do i stand because they just wont budge? I've spoken to managers and team leader and such but no one will give me the code over the phone. Anyone had any problems with getting their code from AOL?

Thanks

When I switched last year sometime, they were very reluctant to give the code and it took a number of phone calls. In the end I managed to get someone to send me the code via email, wasn't a formally set out email at all - just the code basically. Good luck :)

I actually said to the guy, send it now please. I will hold the line whilst you send it and make sure it comes through.

If only it were that simple. They keep saying they have to contact BT to get the MAC authorised or some other bs just to drag the whole process out. Hopefully it comes within the 5 days and everything is good.

Have they ran line tests? I havent hear about them using Talk Talk servers, all AOL connections should be on Fujitsu equipment.

I think what the op means is that he has been moved onto opal telecom equipment & is being heavily throttled at peak times. I think some people are still lucky enough to be on AOL's equipment and servers unlike the nasty talktalk rubbish... Mind talktalk can be good for some but like Tiscali for others.. I wish you all the luck as I know AOL can be funny.

Exactly what i mean. When out of peak times the internet is fine and dandy (although no as quick as before). Once its past 5pm there is no point in even using the internet. It's taken me about 5 minutes to get even this far on these forums which are just text. And Saturdays you might aswell forget about using it.

If you think getting a migration code is difficult just wait until you try getting rid of the AOL software.

Cheers,

Nigel

Everthing was fine on my connection until the start of the month.

Come the evening, speeds drop to as low as 30kBs.

I spoke at length with Live Help, sent them a Speed Test screenshot, where it showed 576kiloBITS, which to those that know what they are talking about is 72kiloBYTES.

The person at the end kept on saying I am getting 576kiloBYTES a second which I am clearly not. I had to explain to them that the Speed Test screen shot was in KiloBITS, but they would not believe me, I tried to explain this to them for an hour. They clearly had no idea what they were talking about.

I never used the software they provided as it is utter poo. Just have a router and the internet is always on.

I've had the exact same conversation with them and it seems AOL only employ people who can read step by step guides and pass them on to me.

Yep your now on the CPW servers.

I'm looking to leave AOL after just under 10 years aswell, frequent disconnections and poor speeds recently has made me want to change ISP.

yea same. Try that link i posted. with virgin they offer to let you leave. i used it before because i was effected by the fair usage policy but as soon as i did that i was allowed to DL as much as i wanted.
