Hello,

As a spur of the moment decision, I decided to get my tongue pierced today.

Has anyone got any advice/tips on how to look after it, help it heal etc?

I know about the salty water etc, anything else that's handy?

Ta :)

I got mine done around 8 years ago and never took any steps whatsever for 'care'.

I was eating big macs the next day, despite them telling me I wouldn't be able to eat for a while due to the swelling. I was also boozing the same night I got it done, despite being warned not to. :)

But, if you really want to stick to the rules, then don't eat solid food (or drink alcohol) until the swelling has gone down, and if you're a smoker you are advised to give up completely.

I've actually had it done twice now... A few years ago I was in a nightclub and the ball came loose and I swallowed it. This resulted in the piercing healing up overnight, so I had to get it re-done. But let me tell you - the second time was way more painful than the first because the area to be pierced had 'hardened'.

Another bit of advice would be to ensure you have a spare, so that if you do happen to swallow one then you can replace it yourself without it healing.

Had mine done a while now. Don't really need any special care with the tongue piercing, as it's in your mouth it heals very well. It'll just be very sore for around 2 weeks and you'll keep catching it when you talk and eat. You may also talk funny for a while and it may give you a slight lisp but that will go when you get used to it!

I had mine done and forgot I was going out for a meal for my father's girlfriend's birthday the next day, had a few pints and steak and chips and I was fine, although I did catch it quite a few times! Small tip - if you eat peas or anything similar sized to the ball, for the first 2 weeks or so you won't be able to tell if you have a pea or the ball on your tongue so be careful, I tried to bite the ball quite a few times :p Now I've had it done for a year or so I don't even notice it's there, and very very rarely catch it at all.

Oh and mine swelled up quite a lot, but that went down gradually over the 2 weeks. When it does, go back and have a smaller bar put in.

Wow, two weeks? My swelling lasted about 3 days! I'd advise people to see a doctor if it lasted longer than a week.

The majority of the swelling went within the first week but it took 2 weeks for it to go down completly to change the bar over to a smaller one.

Mine hurt like buggery a few hours later so i spent a week eating ice cubes trying to reduce the swelling.

Never had a problem with it after that.

Mine swelled like a mofo, when i stuck out my tongue the impression of my teeth were in it. Ate bread and soup for a few days, and some diluted mouthwash every night. Pretty much takes care of itself though.

Hurt a lot the first few days, was so tempted to take it out, still felt a bit uncomfortable for a few weeks after but now i don't even notice it. ( i do bite down on it every couple of months though wihle eatin, should get a plastic ball whenever you can)

Here's mine :o

because tongue studs are for felatio

Women appreciate them too ;)

On the subject of piercings, who here has a PA? Getting mine done as soon as I get the courage together :p

I went to have it done a few weeks back but he didn't have the needles there at the time, kept calling back for a few days but only now he has got them in. Need to get the right mindset back to get it done, was tempted earlier on today when I called in but I need to wait untill payday again I think!
