Microsoft are trying to ensure everyone has enough space for the NXE next month.

The hard drives are refurbs but for £12.99 you can't go wrong.

The deal you get offered depends on the model of your 360, the page checks your serial number/console id

Edit: Not sure where the £12.99 number came from, seems they're £19.99 with 3 months Live

Had no idea NXE required removable storage space, thought it would just go onto the built in flash memory.

Nice solution for Cpre users (the free 512MB drive). Still highlights that MS should always have put storage in all of the 360 models, but must admit it is cool they are acknowledging they messed up and are giving away memory cards to those that need it. Has it been stated anywhere what actually happens if you do not have the 128MB that NXE needs from your storage device? (I think a lot of people won;t claim their memory cards or even know about it tbh).

Sounds like NXE is not mandatory for those people, but I guess we wait till next month to see.

BTW, I think some people already tried to claim memory in the other thread and it knows if you have used a HDD (from your Live profile, I guess), so sounds like this is purely for people who bought the old Core pack (I am not sure but I think Arcade has always come with a free 512MB card).

Way too big. I guess they reached the limit of the features/functions that could fit in the built in memory. NXE is much bigger than the old dashboard, plus it will store more data server side.

I was more thinking of the fact that system updates/revisions usually don't use removable memory, rather than the size or contents of the update. In any case, I wouldn't have thought even Avatars would have used that much space.

What happens then if you install NXE but then afterwards don't have a HDD or Mem Card plugged in? Does it just not work, do you get a cut down NXE or does it go back to blades?
 
rp2000 - Arcades come with a 256mb MU, or the one I bought in May/June did. I use my old HD from my Premium on it so not sure I will get away with claiming one.

If I could claim my HD could I use that as a spare and just copy over my Gamertag. I basically would like to use that as the HD for copying games too whilst using my other one for all the other stuff.
 
aye its cool that ms are actually thinking about this before NXE hits and offering owners a way to get memory if they havnt already.
 
Those not connected to live aren't really going to care though?

I was watching Bonus Round on Gametrailers last night and the panel were saying something like half the install base of the 360 don't have it connected to the Intarweb.
 
The update is going to be intergrated into future games though so it will prompt you to up date the console when you put the disk in, or so I read the other day. Might be a load of nonsense though.

I think that the HDD/memory card is only needed to install the NXE and after that you will be fine, read somewhere it downloads to what ever you are using, deletes the old dashboard and reinstalls the NXE afresh. So having the mem card/hdd means that if something goes wrong while you're installing the NXE like a power cut or something you wont be left with a console that wont work (no dash or anything), it will just install it next time you boot up(if that makes sense lol)
 
I have one of the original Core packs but i bought a HDD for it along time ago (cost me £70 :(), do you think it'll let me claim something?

I would try it but my 360 is out of action again, 3rrod error this time lol, when I get it up and running again i'll give it ago
 
I entered my serial number and console id for my Core Xbox and it says "Congratulations! According to our records you have the necessary hardware and storage space to enjoy the new Xbox Experience."

Yeah, my Premium has enough with its 20gb hard drive but I'll only have my 64mb memory card I purchased with my Premium years ago for use with the Core...

I did get a free memory card with the Core, though it was an independant offer from a supermarket! (i.e. buy a Core and get Fuzion Frenzy 2 and a free memory card [not sure on size as I gave it to my friend] for free)

Sucks.
 
Seems a bit odd to me, how is anyone supposed to get any of these deals when Core/Arcade came with Memory Units and all other 360 models came with Hard Drives.

I put the details in of my new arcade unit and was offered a refurbished 20gb HDD for £19.99 with 3 months of Live.
 
I had a core from launch, it broke....twice and I'm on a re-furb

Won't take my details, thinks I have enough space

(well I do have the HD and Memory card)

Thought I could trick it

the core didnt originally come with a mem card. it only came with AV cables, power and a wired controller
