Hello,

I'm thinking of getting a Q6600 and performing a very mild bit of OCing on it.

A friend has said I should be able to get it running at 3.0GHZ just by upping the FSB to 300.

I realise that this is a very low piece of OCing but am a little worried in case I fry my new chip. Is this a 'safe' thing to do?

Thank you.

im still learning myselft but i can agree there im at 3.3ghz at minute with my stock volts my vid is 1.3 and is stable at that so far also it depends on your cpu vid when u get it as each on is different not two are the same going for 3.4ghz soon once prime blend is done

To get it to 3GHz you'll need to go over 300mhz FSB, given that the max multiplier is 9 :), so yes, it is perfectly safe. Heat & Voltage kills stuff.

dont forget to download cpu-z and core temps that will let you know what your cpu temps are at mine are at 56c on full load, also might be good to get prime95 to stress your cpu and ram ect

i ran mine at 333X9 from the off

then put it at 3.2

tried 3.4 + 3.6 but need to wait until i go onto water

its perfectly safe for the chip

most of the older [better] batches overclock well

people have been known to get 4GHz + on them [under phasechange/good custom water]
