i just did a fresh install of xp, and i installed lavasoft ad-aware and spybot, i have the ad-watch real time protection running and starting with windows, all it seems to do is flash everytime something changes and its annoying, is it worth using the ad-watch feature or should i just disable it , doe sit not offer any great protection?

same question about the spybot tea timer it just warns me when there a change to the registry, is this another feature thats over the top and not really needed?

i was thinking its not worth having these apps running if they are not really necessary.
:)

I always disable the Tea Timer.

I don't like the new AdAware, the SE Personal Edition was excellent, but since AdAware 2008, I haven't been using it.

I find TeaTimer screws up really bad on some resolutions, and has done for years.
Also, I agree that Ad-Aware has gone downhill after SE Personal Edition

Yep, realtime protection of that sort tends to bog your system down and irritate more than anything. Deploy Spywareblaster, then (if you must) occasionally run a manual scan with superantispyware [free edition] or malwarebytes.

;)

cheers guys ill likely just disable tea timer and real time protection with ad-watch.

as i dont pay for my programs i am running adaware pro, i just really use it to run a weekly scan, same as spybot i run my weekly scan. but the 2 icons in the tray are annoying esp the adwatch one it flashes everytime my pc does something lol.

i have installed a hosts file before but i think it was responsible for whn using internet explorer i had to click the back button twice sometimes to go back one page i got the hosts file from http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
