I cant believe how some of you under-estimate the influence Carrick has on the team.
He isn't a skillfull or spotlight player you could call it, what he does is break up play and keep it simple, and when the opportunity arises for a killer ball he will feed it though.

I don't under-estimate him at all. He's our best all-round player. The only minor criticism is that he should score more, perhaps now there'll be a spell without scholesy in the team he'll get forward more and do just that...we've seen him hit a few belters.
Djemba-Djemba was another awful player
Mik - thanks for reminding me about DF's name , he just wasnt suited to the EPL that was all the different style of the Spanish League suited his game better, and Italy with Veron (both of them had decent games at OT just far too rarely)
One thing SAF has to be credited for is the youth system - it was in a complete shambles before he joined and I very much doubt the likes of Beckham, Scholes, Nevilles, etc would have been the players they are without SAF putting the systems in place to develope them (and Giggs to a lesser extext, as he was never really part of the youth system)
We have also let go some incredible young squad players too easily - Rossi and possibly Pique to name the most recent (I have to say Im glad we chose Evans over Pique already, but it would have been great to keep them both)

He was a key player for you though.

I actually quite liked Djemba Djemba, when he played well he was a pretty good defensive midfielder, he just didn't do it consistently enough.
Pique is a much better defender, but it was unfair to limit him when he has so much potential, this wasn't the case with Evans.
I don't think any MU fans on here underestimate him
The OP, Nickg said he's a good squad player or something along those lines, but said he wouldn't be in the first XI, where as every Man Utd fan I know would make him their first name in midfield.
NokkonWud out of all the fellow United fans on this forum I always find myself disagreeing with you the most.
Firstly you seem to have an agenda agaisnt Berbatov, yes he is lacklustre but we don't need another player who constantly runs around harassing players but unable to put the ball in the back of the net frequently. I have not been totally convinced but I'm willing to at least give him a season before I judge.
Secondly I'm sure that not so long ago you declared Evra a bad player:

Oh you've just proved how crap he is then. based on that we'll all admit that their are plenty of managers over an extended period of time with a better transfer record than ferguson.
If you want to talk nonsense then we'll talk about ashley young being worth 30million pounds, berbatov barely being worth 15 ignoring players who have gone for similar sums. quoting his age as one of the reasons as if we bought him to worry about the resale value., giggs just playing to get himself a contract rather than putting the effort in for the club he's played at for nearly 20 years.

It's fairly easy to buy well when you're working at the top end of the market. Fergie's record for players with smaller transfer fee's isn't so impressive.
It's hard to compare the 2. Benitez (like most managers) has, on the whole, spent well when he's spent any serious amount of money on a player.
In Benitez's first years he was mainly having to work at the bottom end of the market so it becomes very hard to find players of our standard for less than £3m.
Btw im not having a go at Fergie's record but he's hardly gone and 'discovered' great players. He's been buying proven players which is far easier.

No agenda against him at all. In fact, I've stated he has the finest first touch I've ever seen in the Premier League and that he does offer something new, however at his price and breaking up the hardwork of the strike force that won us the European Cup and Premier League last season doesn't strike me as the smartest move.
At the time, defensively, Evra was absolutely awful. I've never knocked his coming forward with the ball other than a lack of composure in the box to pick someone out - something he has since fixed. Defensively he has improved, but at the time he was a defensive liability and teams did batter us down the left hand side (anyone who watches back highlights from that season would see that).
Evra was also weak on the ball and would often stay down feigning injury - he even admitted this himself and got himself to the gym and bulked up and toughened up.
The reason I wanted Shorey is his never say die work ethic. I also like the fact he's a solid British LB who reminds me so much of one of my favourite ever players and the greatest LB to ever live, Dennis Irwin.
Because Pique was excellent in his loan season away in Spain where he was often on TV, he was also fantastic in the reserves and when needed last season. He was also a force in the box getting 2 goals in his first 2 games in the European Cup.
I've watched Evans on loan twice now and he's dodgy and has poor decision making. He didn't look that comfortable against Chelsea either, he made 2 clearly poor decisions that had to be cleared up by Rio Ferdinand. Pique might not be the quickest (although, not the slowest either) but he's no slower than Vidic and at Pique's age he's still learning. He was aerially a force, strong in a tackle and strong on the ball, he was also a comfortable passer in the same vein as Ferdinand. In Pique I see the potential to go a very long way and become a top defender in Europe, I just don't see it from Evans.
There is a reason after all that BARCELONA came in for Pique. I don't think you'd see a top team coming in for Evans.
I posted a list of five and said there are many more. Ferguson has made some great signings of that there is no doubt, but he's also bought a lot of tripe. People seem to forget that Man Utd have one of the finest scouting systems in the World and despite that he still hasn't made the quality of signings you would sometimes expect and we have missed some rather obvious talents such as Thierry Henry who was classed as nothing special by Les Kershaw. Ferguson has also broken the transfer record many times, so it's not hard to get top talent when that's the case.
I don't rate Berbatov at 30 million, I'm sorry. I never have, never will. I rate him at £15m. Spurs paid £12m so I don't see £15m as a bad valuation.
I also never said Ashley Young was worth £30m, I said that I would rather have tested Villa's resolve with the same money we went for Berbatov. As Young is a) Young and b) British, you would pay a premium.
I'm not one for re-sale value, however I am one for potential. You pay a lot for potential which is why Nani, Anderson and Rooney all cost us a fortune. We're hardly likely to have Berbatov develop are we?
As for Giggs playing for contracts, I would love to say I was wrong, but based on his performances before and after getting contracts over several years now I truly believe it. He is awesome before a contract, awful after it. Effort before, no effort after. People last season thought I was overly harsh on Giggs which was their prerogative, however I have done nothing but praise him this season because he has been excellent... go figure.

I've not insulted anyone (however I have been accused of talking rubbish etc...), I've been accused of being plain wrong on matters (where I have again proved points where that wasn't the case), I've been more than civil and defended those points which I believe are incorrect and in many cases, backed up my claims with evidence.
I have never reared up on anyone.
My integrity is entirely intact on this matter.
I've not once claimed my view as fact as many others do here, I merely construct my points well, back them with points of interest and my own beliefs, if other people don't agree with them then that is fine, however I fully believe in what I say. I am a very knowledgeable person when it comes to the World of football and when it comes to my knowledge of Man Utd and the Premier League it's very rare I make a mistake when giving information.

Not necessarily true, some of his greatest ever signings have been with lesser fees such as Bruce, Irwin, Solskjaer and Cantona. However I will be the first to also admit throughout his tenure he has broken transfer records quite commonly such as Pallister, Keane, Rooney and Berbatov (although that was only for 10 minutes
).
