2009 London Marathon - The Ballot Result Thread

i got an acceptance letter today.

the hardest part of this is trying to book a hotel within reasonable distance.

Help! Any suggestions?

Yup, if you're unsuccessful and you choose to bequeath your fee, you can either donate your entry fee to charity, or they'll send you a London Marathon fleece.

I've heard from running clubs that by bequeathing, you increase your chances of entry by a few per cent, so it's always worth a shot :)

Ah ok, then i'm guessing the package that's too big for the letterbox may just be a fleece too. Sorry to break the news :(

Still, there's always others. I was unsuccessful last time so did Prague this May, which was absolutely incredible.

Try travel lodge liverpool street. Its where I stopped on 2002. Was alright.

TBH I don't see the appeal for 'proper' runners. I imagine that it's like running up and down Oxford Street on a Saturday afternoon; hell on Earth. Same goes for the Great North Run.

There are plenty of other full and half marathons out there.

tbh the crowd really do pull you along, can easily add 10 minutes on a sub 3.30 run. Best atmosphere in a marathon i've done.

Have decided it's a toss up between Paris and Rotterdam in April '09 now - both offer a potentially fast course. May just pick one based on overall cost.

2009 is a half marathon year for me now I think. Current plan is:

March - Milton Keynes or Stafford
April - Sheffield
June - Potters

Dates fit in nicely with the Questars adventure racing. Then racing one event becomes training for another.

Didn't get on either, not to upset about it as I've not been doing the best training of late for running so swings and roundabouts. 1 down 5 more rejections to go!
