P5Q Pro PCIE @X8

The manual says that when using a single card it runs at PCIe 2.0 x 16 dropping to X8 when using 2 cards.

Im just about to rma it. The last 2 Asus boards Ive had have been rma'd, though the replacement last time was fine, but its certainly put me off Asus in the future.

What PSU? I know that sometimes the 4850 will drop to 8x or even 1x when it's not getting enough power, perhaps the 4870 works similarly.

Try using a different PCI-E power cable or something

Interesting thread. :D

I have the same motherboard and also a ATI 4870 card. I just checked mine after reading this thread using CCC and CPU-Z. Both seem to report my card as PCIE2.0 @ 16x.

I think that external PSU is not correctly powering the card maybe. ??

Have you tried to hook it up to the internal power supply and see if this changes the bandwidth to 16x. ??

Worth a shot.

Also upgrade CCC to the latest version could help.

I have tried the other Power supply with the 4870 and also tried my 8800GTX which has worked fine on these power supplies this is also reported as X8. Im on the latest 8.10 drivers and CCC.

I wonder if it's the cat 8.10s. I have just loaded the new 8.10 cats and my HD4670 now also shows it's running at x8 in GPU-Z, whereas before loading them it was at x16. This is in a GA-P31-DS3L mobo.

Might try the 8.10s in the PC in sig. but this is running Vista instead of XP in the one above
