A Cumbrian mother took her son's ashes into a courtroom to prove he was dead, after being hounded by officials.

Basically the mother was hounded by the DVLA and in the end to prove her son was dead she carried her son's ashes to court.

I feel for the mother, its bad enough to lose a son but to be hounded by the dvla, baliffs and then having to go to court to prove he son is dead.

I hope some numpty at the dvla loses their job for this but we all know pigs will fly first.

I honestly don't know what to say to that =/

It wasn't his car, and he'd been dead anyway when the sale went through. Death certificate isn't enough for some people? Heck that's more proof than some persons arshes surely?

I mean I could just grind up soot from a coal fire and claim that X was dead... why the heck the death certificate wasn't enough is beyond me

well its pretty poor. Why would she try cover up that her son was dead if he wasnt I dont get it

I cannot ****ing abide the DVLA. They make a living by assumed guilt and issuing fines to people who neglect to preemptively plead innocent to crimes that they have yet to commit [SORN fines in particular?]). They consistently lie about having not received various notifications (In my case having cashed the cheque that was stapled to them and claiming that they had received no communication.. Orly?). They (as an organisation) bully and inhere criminal traits to honest motorists, whilst doing very little to deal with the real criminal element.

**** the DVLA.

I agree with this, I got robbed by the DVLA when i was hit by an un-insured driver. He was in the wrong i was insured he wasnt. I lose about £2500. he gets off scot free.... bloody great

**** the DVLA

This country gets worse and worse, wouldn't be surprised if she tried to get anything back for this - blag some free car tax?!

if you wrote a letter, stapled a cheque to it, they then cashed the cheque and said youve not had any communication..

if i were in your shoes, i would spend like 2 months and track down and kill one or several people.

Fortunately my next doors neighbors son is the local MP, he's 'taking it up' for me. It was a SORN notification, but even generally speaking it's still a ridiculous situation.. If you don't tax a car you're not aloud to drive it on the road, I can adhere to that no problem; so why on earth do i have to send a form to someone to tell them that I don't intend to drive the car. You're literally promising that you wont commit a crime relating to road tax in the future. Why? lol. It's purely revenue building. There's really no other reason, a car is flagged as having no tax in exactly the same way it's flagged for having a SORN declaration (ANPR), so I see no real need for SORN.

Are the DVLA a bunch of muppets? If there is a death certificate then he is offically dead. If they have a problem take it up with the authorities ie the police. I'd have blatently told em to shove the court order up thier arse.
