Hi,

Tuned BBC HD and ITV HD in on my DVB-S Tv card on my pc. Watched a few programmes on BBC HD and it looked like nothing more than a shade better over BBC SD broadcasts.

During an add break a 20 second advert for Planet Earth came on, the one with the waterfall. OMG that scene was amazing! SO, why or why has the actual programming been below par?

Secondly, whats football on ITV HD like? I'm counting down the days until I can watch Man u v celtic on the 21st!

Sometimes it can be a bit grainy and not up to the standard they frequently exhibit. For example Heroes is spot on but silent witness doesnt have the same detail in low light/shadow and can look very grainy.

Do you have much lipsync issues with that setup? Freesat Humax box is pretty poor on that front with BBCHD.

Ive heard football on ITV HD is poorer quality than it is on sky sports, bbc HD footie is generally the best i find.

Off topic mate but what DVB-S TV card do you have and how much does it cost to hook it up?

I have a Haupagge HVC-3000 card. I bought it second hand a year ago, but if I were buying one now I would get a DVB-s2 card.

For example Heroes is spot on but silent witness doesnt have the same detail in low light/shadow and can look very grainy.
I watched them both last night, Heroes was good in light senses, but dark senses I thought were worse than SD, very grainy.

Why cant all the broadcasts be like the Planet Earth advert? HD telly aint gonna take off if this is what you get :/. Hoping the Man u game next week puts a smile on my face :)

Well the planet earth programs always look good as they are nearly always in brighter conditions. I find that all of the HD channels look a little grainy on darker scenes but the BBC HD channel always looks one of the better ones to me.

What's you're TV like with darker scenes in general, with DVD's or Blu-ray's etc? Maybe it's the TV or you're HVC-3000/GPU, or just set up or something?

I calibrated the plasma properly and get a superb picture with my ps3 on blu-rays.

I have the a Hd-DVD 360 drive plugged into the Pc using the same TV settings and get a superb settings. the hd-dvd drive uses the same cyberlink codecs as dvbviewer for BBc HD.

Maybe I just need to watch more and see how it ghoes. Im not complaining to much as it hasn't cost me any money to get bbc hd and itv hd.

You'll have to accept that HD channels will never look as good as BR at the moment because they simply don't have the bitrate. Plus grain is intentional in some programmes and what might not be noticable on an SD broadcast is shown clearly on HD. Having a HD picture doesn't necessarily mean something will look like the latest big screen blockbuster :)

I only ever watch Later and that seems fine to me on Virgin Media.

How can I get ITV HD? I 've a sky HD box but that channel isn't listed. I've got BBC HD tho and I think the quality is great on most programs. Mind you I think the SD quality on my TV is awesome too :D

It's really annoying that you can't get ITV HD on a sky box. The PQ of the footy on the SD channel is shockingly bad. :(

Anyone know if sky intend to add it?

Which software player are you using Oxy? I've had no luck in getting ITV HD to work on mine with DVBdream.

I bought dvbviewer in the end. When I say bought I mean bought :) The other way didn't work, if you get what I'm trying to say. :)

I only tried "the other way" as they didn't offer a trial. DVBviewer is well worth £12.
