You won't see a massive difference, 4850 is about on par with an 8800GTS in most stuff, bit better AA performance.

Is that what you had before HeX? (8800GTS)

I would have thought that the 4850 was faster by a big enough margin not to be considered 'about on a par' with one.

No fanboiism, it just comes as a surprise is all.

Some benchies I did when I first got the cards.

(Ignore the CF scores, those were done on a cripled P35 board before I got my P5E)

I did try other games as well (not got the scores noted down tho), and it was about the same, always ~8800GTS-9800GTX speeds in most stuff.

Ignor HeX lol.

I just replaced my 8800gt with a 4850 Sapphire toxic (should have got a 4870 but couldnt afford the extra). I replaced cause of the annoying Nvidia Driver bugs with vista but have found the the 4850 Kicks my old 8800gt's ass.

Stalker Clear sky is now playbel in dx10 (wasnt with the 800 I had to use dx9 to be smooth, could even use enhanced lighting) and Crysis dx10 on high is very playable as well.

Imo the 4850 is much better than the 8800gt. If you look at any reviews its compared with the 9800 series of cards to which its on par. If you had an 8800GTX then the story might be different, but i would expect similar performance. Dont get me wrong the leap isnt that much, but the 4850 def performs better than the 8800gt.

I would recommend the Powercolour for about £120 (with custom cooler), i bought the factory OC Sapphire for about £160, but thats cause i dont like invalidating my warranty by overclocking.

Well, I expected it would have been more. You learn something new everyday, or every five minutes as far as components are concerned.

Thanks for the info. :)

*edit*

@Swordfish125

He's talking about a GTS 512, even then I know every game reacts differently, yet I didn't expect something like Lost Planet to be that close.

And thanks for the advice, I'll keep it in mind.

Cheers.

If you read what I posted I said it performs about on par with an 8800GTS-9800GTX depending on the game.

It is faster than a GT, but imho isn't worth the money to change, you are only gonna get £60 or so for a GT, and a 4850 is £110 cheapest, so you are spending £50-60 to get maybe 10-15% performance boost. That isn't value for money imho.

If I had an 8800GT i'd be looking at either a GTX260 or a 4870 as a worthy upgrade.

I would agree a 4970 is a better choice. I binned my 8800gt after sevetal months of rying to solve the damn nvidia crash in vista with no avail. It wether you can spend the extra cash, for me the extra £50 was a bit too much....
i was also told that the 4970 wuld stuggle on my 550w PSU.
