Taken - Liam Neeson

Saw Taken tonight. Was pretty good, but reminded me on something that Segal or Van Damme would have done a few years ago.

Certainly worth seeing.

What an absolutely superb film. I haven't had such a great time watching a film since the Bourne Ultimatum. It even topped the Dark Knight for me.

It was only marred by the fact I left my wallet there, and have since found out that my local cinema doesn't appear to have a phone number. :(

the girl is 'Shannon' from lost, she always tends to play the spoilt brat! (and an annoying one at that)

very cool action scenes, with some pretty tense fighting scenes -felt a lot like Bourne, with a bit of the coolness gnawed away from it

cringing parts..
when Neeson goes under the bed
girl running / saying daddy
final scene! (should've just given her the card, instead of a late repeat cameo)

overall though 7.3/10, really enjoyed it, well worth a watch

whoops made a new thread as this didnt pop up when searching, thought it was amazing.
Not quite man on fire, but definately up there.
Agree with how the girl runs.. retard.

thought i'd ressurect this old beast. Took my mum to see this (She's a big Neeson fan).

I was pleasantly surprised! I thought it looked interesting from the trailers, but i've been taken in by trailers before so i didnt get too excited.

I liked the fighting. It was very gritty. You get so many films now with the huge fight scenes where everyone is a ninja and the camera revolves 360 around them blah blah blah. I liked them in this film cause he wasn't scared to hit someone with whatever was at hand (noticeably a large, full champagne bottle.. and a fire extinguisher).

yeah. I'll probably buy it when it comes out :)

Saw a feature on this on filmextra, hadnt previously looked out for it but it looked promising, think I may go see this weekend

before seeing this, i thought it would just be a tame version of Hostel (which is a really crap film)

but this was an awesome film, with next to no press with it..

the last time i left the cinema feeling that impressed/surprised was after seeing 'We Own the Night'

I really don't get why everyone loves this so much :o

Went to see this a few weeks ago on the back of its IMDB rating and rave reviews. I thought it was very predictable.

Neesons accent made me cringe EVERY time i heard it, the action was good for the first few scenes but then when I realised that every single scene would be him bashing someones head against a wall, i switched off.

There were no redeeming actors as there sometimes are in these films, I genuinely felt sorry for Neeson as normally he's an awesome actor, he clearly just couldn't do anything with this script.

My friend and I just kept looking at each other throughout and laughing at how bad it was!

I think the comment that it felt like a mid 90's van damme film is entirely accurate, only... that is not a good thing for a film made in 2008 with someone like Liam Neeson as the star!

I know different people like different things and normally I can see the others point of view even if I don't agree with it, but with this film.. I have no idea at all, maybe there was subliminal messaging in the trailer than didn't effect me or something :s

I really, really enjoyed it. Hadn't seen anything about it before so perhaps the surprise added to my enjoyment. Top movie.

Anyone who compares this to a van damme film obviously has never seen a van damme, norr did they pay much attention to the film.
Its gripping and there isnt really much over the top action, its gritty and dare I say it somewhat believable, whereas van damme films as far from.
The accent was fine, it added to it in my opinion, he acted the roll brilliantly.
Im not a van of the accents usually, Bale's spoils batman for me.

You must be going back decades when you last saw Liam Neeson actually act - Ive assumed hes just given up, definitely nothing like he was and usually puts me off a film if hes in it...

ps3ud0

Christian Bale's Batman accent is about as spot on as I imagine anyone could ever make it. I always imagined (from the comics) that he spoke in that exact OTT deep gravelly way while in the Batman role, he does it to decrease the chances of someone recognising him and to increase the terror behind the legend of his character.

The Dark Knight is almost certainly one of the best films of 2008 if not the best film of the last few years imo and Neeson was excellent as Raj al-Ghoul in Batman Begins.

Taken is not believable at all! The chances of somebody, even an ex secret agent type, rampaging through France, and then finally just flying back home with no repurcussions are laughable at the very least.

I also LOVE the fact that after this horrific ordeal, everyone, including his daughter, is just fine at the end, literally a few days after it is all over (if I was following the stories timeline correctly), he just has a few bandages. If that isn't Steven Seagal I don't know what is. Stepdad: "Are you sure I can't do anything for you?", Neeson: "No, I have everything I need" /looks at daughter. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? What kind of ending line is THAT??

I walked out of the cinema with the distinct impression that the film wanted to impart a message to its viewers, and that was, "if you leave America and head anywhere else in the world, even to the nicer places in Europe, you WILL be stolen and sold to the sex trade if your a women" thats exactly what a nation like the USA needs right now, films that encourage inwardness and xenophobia...

Neesons character starts off by saying "I've seen the world, if we let our little girl out of her neighbourhood she WILL die" her wife poo-poo's it (as well she should) but lo-and-behold, what do you know? The guy who thinks the whole world bar his neighboorhood is an evil nasty place was right! Shock!
