Why are people so stupid ?

I'm with you on IE7 too. I tried Firefox (for about 6 months) and swapped back to IE (IE6 at the time) in the end. I missed the tabbed browsing and that was it. Of course, as soon as they introduced it into IE7 it became my perfect browser.

I've dabbled with Opera, and Safari. Didn't like either of them either :D

I just don't see the point in installing additional software to do the same job as IE. A job which IE does very, very well.

tbh I find IE slow now I've moved to chrome.

Now that's total BS.

Its proven to be faster than FF and it still is not fixing the old guy's PC the OP is moaning about.

since when?

but I agree that you should fix the issue rather than work around it.

The guy is not dumb, he should not need to use FF or any other crap.

I agree. If they want to use IE7 and are paying you for a service then it should be fixed rather than using a workaround. If they're not paying you and you're not willing to go and investigate futher than its tough luck for them I guess.

IE has random lock ups, even opening a new blank tab seems an awkward task for it at times

we're moving a long way from the OP though

As has been said, regardless of which browser is better than the other, the customer wants IE to work and as an engineer you should Fix it, not install another app....

How would you like it if you took your car to a garage to be fixed and the mechanic told you to just buy another car !!!

Thats like saying you take your PC to a shop and they tell you to buy a new PC, not just change the web browser...

What I would do is get IE working for them then recommend Opera or Google Chrome over IE, I'm not sure about FF, some people say it is better than IE but then that Firefox Myths page says otherwise but dont know if that site is to be believed.

That does not make IE the best, I've used Opera and Google Chrome and find both better than IE tbh.

I only use IE as a last resort.

Calling other browsers crap is silly.

Who said it was best ?, it shows FF as it is.

The OP needs learn how to fix PC's instead of getting impatient with old peeps and giving them something they do not need or want instead.

Very very occasionally I have to use IE mode in Firefox because a page has poor Java coding.
I looked at IE7 and immediately dismissed it when I saw how the buttons had been scattered around the toolbar. It looks as if it was just thrown together. Why are 'Back' and 'Forward on the left, with 'Home' on the right? Is there any logic to the arrangement? At least with Ffox I can have the buttons I want where I want them.
On any web page the normal logic for eye movement is left to rigt, top to bottom. That is why so many websites have their primary 'menus' towards the left. I suspect that in countries which write right to left the situation may be different. But the scatter approach of IE is neither one nor the other.
Out of curiosity I looked at IE8 info on MS site. It looks as if it is more complicated than ever. Why do so may s/w producers end up by drowning in their own bloatware?

I find it incredibly annoying when I am in the presence (in RL) of a Firefox/Opera advocate and constantly brings it up when all a user wants to do is fix a small problem with their IE install. To such an extent that a couple times I've stepped in and fixed the problem in a couple minutes.

Some people just want a simple web browser without a loud exhaust, lexus lights and lowered suspension attached to it. IE fulfills that market.

Hehehe funny that I used to get that with FF very annoying!!!

I used IE7 for quite a few months & with the IEpro addon it is a nice browser!

But now I use Chrome much prefer how simple it looks I don't need 10,000 different things clogging up the screen.

To be fair all 4 browsers IE,FF,Chrome & Opera are decent at what they do.

OP.

You have not fixed the issue, You've ignored it.

:p Actually I have fixed the issue because my issue was the fact that the guy was asking me how to fix a remote issue that he'd tried most solutions for i.e. reinstall of IE6 and IE7. Run reg cleaners and tried various solutions on the microsoft site.

By giving the alternative of Firefox/Opera I have fixed MY issue because i'm not a tecky, I just develop web applications therefore its assumed I have a god like knowledge of everything PC..
