I've just taken delivery of a new SONY KDL32W4000U, now the question is I've had my sky+ for about 3 1/2 years now and have been very happy with it, it's a Pace box.

I was wondering if Sky-HD was worth me investing another £250+ in a new Pace TDS850NB box and of course the extra money uncle Rupert wants for me to view HD channels or do you think I should stick with my present box till it gives up the ghost.

They have special offers on at the moment so its "only" 75 quid for the box, 30 quid install and 10 pounds extra per month. Mine gets installed tomorrow :)

Thanks, I've seen the offers but I susspect they'll palm you off with a Thompson box, I'd much perfer to have the Pace box as they are a better quality build and they are faster browsing.

I was just wondering if it was worth making the switch or should I stay put with Sky+

If you want HD, then get it. Simple :)

I have Sky-HD since January and have been please with it (including the Thompson box).
The cost is much more attractive now since they have add more of the film channels in the last week or so, go for it.

People with new installations seem to be getting either the new samsung box or the new pace box atm. you could always try requesting the pace box when you order and try and be nice to the installer

We have had it for about 14 months and we are happy with ours

It's not as great as I was hoping for tbh. Yes it's sharper for sports and movies and in general normal broadcasting is fine but there's a distinct lack of channels and any animated programmes look shocking in HD. If you've got the full package and you watch the sports then it's worth it for £105 / £10pm, otherwise I'd wait till they release more channels or drop the price.

Thanks Guys, it looks like in general people seem to happy with Sky HD, maybe I'll wait a few weeks till it's my birthday and give myself a treat.

I think I'll still buy a HD box off the bay as that way I'll get exactly what I want and I'm not going to pay for intstallation as I've got everything there, I'll see if I can squeeze a little deal out of Sky, I can always use the I'm thinking of going back to Virgin as I'm in a cabled area.

and thank you for your constructive input.

I was hoping someone who has made the switch could say if it was worth it or not

Wow thats nice

Whats the point in asking? People have different opinions on whether or not its worth and it depends on the package that you have which you clearly haven't stated. You can tell yourself if its worth it or not without having to run to the Internets. Look at the HD channels available and ask yourself, "Do i watch them?". If yes, get it. Whats the problem?

OK fair point and apologies if I offended in any way.

Maybe I could have worded my question a little bit better and I should have been a bit more exact.
I should have asked is the improvement in picture quality worth making the switch from Sky+ to Sky HD.

Generally people seem to be saying it is, so I guess I'll make the change in a few weeks.

Cheers
