I find jerusalem (the song!) very stirring. While I realise ti will never be crowned our official anthem I feel more patriotic listening to it than I do when listening to God Save The Queen. So what do others think?

Also, any chance of a poll, mods?

EDIT: Any chance of the following poll:
GSTQ
Jerusalem
Land of Hope and Glory
Rule Britannia

GSTQ is bloody depressing and makes most other nationalities think we're pretty dull because of it.

It's good with the politically incorrect verse left in :p

O Lord, our God, arise,
Scatter her enemies,
And make them fall.
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all.

Yea, I love the patriotic ideals of a song named after a city in another country.

As opposed to singing about a non elected inherently wealth person do you mean?

Why can we not sing about our country, other nations do.

So we should elect Monarchs now should we? You say it as they buy endless amount of expensive stuff whilst living a do-nothing lazy lifestyle

You sound like a fifth columnist to me

God Save The Queen is my favourite anthem without a doubt. Whenever I hear it it gets me really emotional: I love my country and its' anthem.
Changing it (to anything but God save the King) shows us how pathetic we have become as a nation. It is part of our identity and having anything else would be pandering to the masses of apathetic fools who couldn't give two hoots about their proud nation.

The Irish have an anthem, the Scots have an anthem, the Welsh have an anthem now of course to suggest the England has an anthem is very risky!

England doesn't really exist for any real intents or purposes, we dont have a parliament either. Everything "British" is applied to England.

My dad has always said Land of Hope & Glory should be our national anthem.

BTW, I love these threads. Makes me go and listen to all the songs.
