Hi all,

Me and my bro have exactly the same computers but i have a 4870 X2 and he has 1 4870 1024mb.

His crysis runs everything absolutely 100% floorlessly on 8.10 drivers in Crysis Warhead. When i mean floorlessly, i really god damn mean floorlessly.

the settings are maxed out with 8 x Anti aliasing and resolution 1680 x 1050.

Now for my X2, i have everything maxed out at 1680 x 1050 at 8x anti aliasing.. Its playable, but its Certainly not as good as his. infact there is about 10 fps difference between them.

So here is proof..

The 4870 X2 is not as powerful as a 4870 1024 mb when it comes to crysis and crysis warhead. (WTFFFFF lol)

*cries*.. I hate everyone so much!

P.S his overclocks stable at 790 mhz / 965mhz.. mine at 762mhz / 965 mhz @ 70% fan speed (noisy).. his just auto adjusts when it needs to. the X2 is a big letdown for me.

Yeah X2 is pretty poor for Crysis, i'm talking from experience - my 280 is faster than my X2 was. But there shouldn't be a 10FPS difference, should be about the same with 4870/4870X2. Are you both running it on DX10? Maybe your've seen ya bro's PC running a very non-demanding area of the game?

Somethings obviously wrong or not set on the highest setting on ya brothers PC, because neither card is capable of running Warheard perfectly smoothly on DX10 Enthusiast settings with 8xAA. I mean even my 3.8GHz quad, 8GB RAM, with X2 or highly clocked 730MHz+ 280 cant even do that. Or just look at the Crysis benchmark thread, a 4870/X2 wont even get 45FPS with NO AA on highest settings.

Huh.... I've got a 4870x2 and I played Crysis and Warhead through at 1680x1050 with 8xaa with no issues. Cat 8.10's are the shizzle for Crysis. Cat 8.9's not so much.

I got better performance with 8xaa on than off strangely enough.

Forums are full of crazy people who bought a x2 and only tried it with the first driver set it had and returned it. This card is getting better with every driver release.

Really, wow. Better ditch the 280 for one of these then.

Maxed out with 8X AA thats just unbelievable. Really unbelievable!

Partly because ATi doesnt do 8xaa :P so its probably defaulting to none at all

So many different configs. No ones even asked what his cpu is. He may be completely an utterly bottlenecked by the cpu, whilst his brother is not.

It's probably a config issue or driver issue though rather than anything else.

Also.. what O/S are you running as some don't respond as well to crossfire as other's (i.e. Vista 32/ Vista 64 / XP 32 / XP 64 / Win 2000 etc, which one you using?)

I can only assume when he says exactly the same, the only difference are the graphics cards, otherwise his post is a little pointless.

He's got a q6600 at 3.52ghz while his bro has a q6600 at 3.41ghz and both are using vista 64bit.

Made me chuckle too :)

He always makes that mistake no matter how many times I correct him :p.

Oh and from reading the title, I thought something horrific had actually happened to the whole 4870 series, like they all suddenly died or something...

Thanks :) That pretty much rules out being bottlenecked then (Crossfire has more of an overhead so if cpu bottlenecked it can perform worse than a single card that is on the cusp).

Sounds like a config or driver (+supporting software) issue. Can't remember, is there a dual card option in Crysis menu's?

Do you have dot net 3.5 framework installed? and all upto date?

I guess I must be second.

Try looking through the Crysis benchmark threads rather than spruoting ill informed trash - please :D

From looking at the Crysis Warhead benchmarking thread an X2 seems to only give an extra 5/6 fps at 1280 x 1024 Gamer settings over an 4870 512 running comparable CPU's and OS's.

At 1680 x 1050 Enthusiast it's more like 3/4 fps.

I'd hardly say that was Cossfire working "great".
