Dubai bans cars older than 10 years

The barking mad Sultan of Dubai RTA said:
“I believe the rule will not affect the majority of motorists for years to come as only 10 percent of cars are older than 10 years, and some 82 percent of cars are between one and five years old.”

Then one has to ask, if there are apparently so few old cars, what are they going to achieve from banning them?

Not sure, but don't they also not allow you to own a car if you don't have a parking space (your own).

Awesome idea. You go down the council roads near me and you an barely get one car through as there are cars parked down both sides.
Shouldnt have a car if you have nowhere to keep it.

Reguarding the OP, the Dubai idea is completely stupid. How can this new idea help anything except forcefully increase car sales. Would massively increase scrap cars too.

Backward idea for a backward country.

Pretty much

Title is wrong, apparently, they are banning 20year old cars.

Still backward, just not quite as backward as before!

if you step back and look at it though, we are the backward ones...

means there are no death traps on the road.

car crime is also zero in UAE, just leave your keys in ignition afaik and no one dares to take it.

A 1 week old car can potentially be a death trap - iirc bentley had to recall some cars due to wheels falling off. Any car can be a cut-and-shut too, or been in a serious accident.

What a stupid thing to say.

Its all about limiting risk, older cars are more likely to be faulty and a certaintly not as safe as new cars.

Thats just a waste, damn indians never give a toss about waste.

It's cool to take dangerous cars off the road, which is what mot/ inspection or whatever you want to call it is for.

so you don't agree older cars tend to have more faults ? (hence MOTs)

on the whole newer cars have less faults and are safer... you cannot argue that, though seem to be lol

But what about the ones that are very well maintained? If 60% of the older cars are death traps, what about the 40% that are decent motors?

they can do as they do in japan, sell them off cheap to be exported.. in japan afaik the MOT style tests cost way to much after a certain age and it's not viable finacially to keep them....

benefit here is we get loads of cheap grey import scoobs :)

There was zero crime in Wallachia when Vlad the Impaler was in charge. I'm sure that you are aware that he was a lunatic.

Zero crime does not equal a perfect society.

a society that fear commiting crime is a nice one to live in... the only people annoyed would be the criminally inclined, tough luck

i think in the UK if some scally gets caught red handed driving a stolen motor he should lose a hand.... would stop joyriding dead NO DOUBTS

i would laugh my ass off at all the one armed chav scum..

Nice one

Theoretically correct but how many heaps of crap do you see on the roads every day that is either running without an MOT, has a "friendly" MOT tester or barely scrapped through 11 months ago and is now being run to death by its owner?

I think a blanket ban is wrong but a carefully thought out approach to get old bangers off the road is an idea with some legs IMO.
