I took a year out and worked full time, non-stop but i've recently started back at Uni and I'm finding it very difficult to motivate myself. I'm not getting a lot of sleep at night(just can't sleep) and on my days off I find myself browsing the forums all day, before having a couple of naps.

I have loads to work on and really want to make the effort but when I get round to it, I just don't bother!

Anyone else in a similar situation?

Just force yourself to get started on the work and you should get some momentum and keep going. If it's not working at home, get to a library or private study room :)

Yes, classic signs of depression, go see your doctor.

Actually, those are signs of depression. I should know, as I am depressed and those are some of my symptoms.

Now, I'd not have leapt to that diagnosis based on those symptoms alone, but it's certainly something to bear in mind if he's got any of the other symptoms.

PS OH NOES MEDICAL.

Yeah, so hard to bring yourself to actually do something useful sometimes.

I think I was depressed for four years! Totally ****** at work, that was the route of the problem. Now starting a new career! Now happy again and got back in touch with my mates.

I think that's just what I need, a good kick up the backside to get started!
could just be the time of year, it is getting darker and it affects quite a few people.

Look up SAD

Never experienced this before, I usually enjoy the winter nights but lately the dark morning have been getting me down.

I've become displeased with work(even though I'm part-time now) which makes me dread going, but I get on with it! I'm not sure a new job would help, I'm in a safe position at the moment, I fear losing it.

I'll bear that in mind. :(
Dont nap during the day, it wrecks your sleep pattern.
I agree, I often just feel so damn tired during the day though.

But thats because youve got into a bad habit. When you feel drwosy, you need to keep yourself awake during the day, even if it means going out of the house for a walk. Then when it gets to bedtime you will sleep better. It wont take long for your body to re-adjust.

It might be hard to get into the routine, but you need to work when you are supposed to and and have more fun when you are off. You feel better if you achieve some work and also better when you have fun, it is a self perpetuating cycle. I do generally feel down in the winter also. Things just take more effort.

This happened to me too.

It's odd how you can go from working 9-5 every day and taking it in your stride to suddenly finding it hard to tackle uni work (which definitely shouldn't take 8 hours a day). In the end I forced myself to do the work and graduated. I'm now back working and it doesn't seem like the hassle I thought it would be.

I think some people just function (better) with structure. I guess we're both among those unfortunate sods. :p

I also feel like this. Have been at work for 2 years before coming to uni and forgot how difficult it is to motivate yourself on coursework type things. As a side note i'm pretty sure I am depressed, as of about 2 years now, coincidental, hmm....

Motivation affects everyone at uni. You just need to get some friends, even better if they are doing the same coursework as you and you can chat to them about it and work to a similar schedule that they are which should spur you along. I'm sure most students have been in your situation with no rigid structure to follow.
