I'll probably be getting this card replaced fairly soon, and I'm wondering if anyone could help me find which newish card or cards out there nowadays perform at the same calibre as this one? Bear in mind it's an XTX, i.e. an overclocked XT ;)

If only a loose match is known, I'd prefer the slightly better performing choice to be mentioned rather than the less performing one if possible :p

Also, both ATi and nVidia cards are acceptable.

Thanks in advance OcUK :)

The best performance is from the 4870x2 which is in a league of its own and cost over £300 prices vary. The gtx280 is the fastest single core gpu and is around £300. Next its the 4870 1gb which is not far behind the gtx280 but cost around £190. The 4870 1gb is where i would go if i had a limit on money. The x2 is where i would go if money was no object. The gtx280 is a great card but at its current price is not fast enough. Even the 4850 at around £120 would be much faster than your current card.

Thanks mate, I actually have a 280 GTX on my main system but I'm just looking to see what replacement to suggest to a company who will be replacing a faulty X1900XTX (it's actually my little brother's pc).

Obviously this company will try as hard as possible to give me some lame replacement, and I was just hoping I'd get a few ideas of what to suggest, should they ask me what I expect as a replacement for the X1900XTX

4870 X2 is technically in the same position - ultra high end. Although I imagine they're expecting 4870 1GB. Don't accept anyting less, since the XTX was, well, the very top model. A sizeable price premium over the XT, rare, and not that much faster.

Do you think I could pull that off?

As an upgrade from the X1900XTX, I bought an 8800 Ultra, and that really outperformed it, so I imagine I'd be getting something less powerful than an 8800 Ultra, maybe something like the 8800 GTS but that's what I'm not sure about :o

I dont expect so much a card with a pricetag of what I originally paid 2 years ago (£300+... that would be quite a high expectation I would've thought), but more something like a new graphics card produced recently that would get me the same 3DMark score as the X1900XTX, or if necessary, slightly better if the above doesn't exist.

Its not your fault its faulty - if this is a warranty jobby, then you should get the equivilent model back. At least that would be my interpretation.

But the other interpretation (yours) is probably the correct one. I'm guessing the 4670 is roughly equiv? Maybe 4650.

Depressing isn't it? That high end cards over the course of 2 years suddenly become 'mainstream' at ~£60. :(

My thoughts are this, if they had a X1900XTX in stock, they'd ship you that. Being the X1900XTX is now getting on a bit, it'd be very easy to justify sending you a 3850 or 4670, being that they're faster, draw less power, and support newer DirectX implementations and such.

I would say HD4870 1GB - the 4870X2 is more like the X1950XTX, in that's it's at the absolute top-end. :)

The 3850 should be at the same preformance level.

Thanks guys :)

Indeed :(

They should and most likely will offer you a card with similar performance and features. It would be difficult for you to fight for a top of the range card as the X1900XTX simply cannot hold a candle to today's best cards.

I would be very happy if they offered a 4850 or better but you may have to accept a 3 series card I'm afraid.
