GF just drove away from a fender bender

She could probably get in trouble for it.

Its beyond me why we let people who cant speak English live in this country.

but she did stop, it's not her fault surely that the stupid **** living in an english country couldnt speak english well enough to take her details now is it?

Lurvely.. i'm sure all of those english people living in foreign countries and not speaking the native tongue agree.

Just call the insurance company, and report the incident and explain the situation. Did your GF get the Chinese lady's number plate on her phone?

Irrelevent.

She left the scene of an accident so she can in theory be charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Just becuase people are not English doesn't mean it's ok to forget about driving into them.

what do you do though? If you can't communicate with the person how are you meant to give them the details? Its not like she just drove off, she TRIED to give her the details?

You write your details down, in English, and hand them to the other person. Or at the very least you make a note of the persons registration number, car make and model and then report the accident to the police, explaining that you were unable to exchange details and why.

But you still have the option of reporting it to the police, it's the only reasonable option open to her and failure to do so could lead to the police taking a dim view of it if a complaint was made.

You just write it down on something and give it her.

EDIT: Or text them her the details

How do you know this? The OP states they couldn't exchange details because neither of them had access to a pen. Regardless of either partys English skills it would be quite difficult to remember theme without writing them down.

I'm sure she would have had a mobile too, there really isn't any good excuse to just drive off in this situation.

Ok, just rung the police. The fella I spoke to seemed suprised that I even called to report this. He barely took details.

I got a reference number anyway. I completely agree that our insurance company would cover the costs. I don't agree with her driving away, but she was in a panic and acted irrationally.

Oh well, you've done all you can do now.

It's in the other womans hands now. I doubt they'll get in contact with the police tbh.

As I said. She did not have a pen on her. I gave the police all her insurance details and both our names. I also notified her insurance company.

Anything else I can do?

well yea i didnt mean dont report it to the police, but if you were caught in a sitution where the third party a) didnt have a mobile or a camera, B) neither of you had a pen, what more can you do? Id just take a few pictures for my own records and get as many details as you can on the mobile (send yourself a text), and report it to the police

Done all you can mate, good man. Have a beer and chill

Thanks for the varied input folks. I will now leave it in the Chinese lady's hands and hope she gets in touch with the police so the insurance can sort her out something.
