OK i have 2 rescued cats and we've had them for a few years now so they are fairly big.

A couple of issues:

The female cat cant cough up fur balls very well. She goes to the garden and eats grass, really long blades in the hope she will vomit and that it will drag up some hair. Sometimes works but rarely.. How should i tackle this? I've bought some cat hair ball food, so apparently it will aid breaking them down.. how effective are these :S and does anyone recommend a brand / food / treat?

The male cat has no problems getting rid of hair balls. But for some strange reason, he has a fascination with eating plastic bags. he'll just chew it and then eat it. For no reason, sometimes he might be hungry but i've seen him try to do it right after eating a meal... We try ULTRA hard to have no plastic around the house but as you may know its very hard. What the hell is this cat up to?!? and is there any form of action i can take?

Thanks in advance, in return some pictures:

here's them initially 2 of them sharing a cat bed together. Timmy is the mainly black one, holy is the felix look-a-like.

When he's trying to eat a plastic bag, get a water spray and give him a short quick burst, but make sure he doesnt see you do it.

He'll soon realised eating plastic bags = water = bad :)

I'd say you could try combing the hair-ball cat once or twice a day with a very fine comb to remove as much loose hair as you can. You may have to do it for a few weeks to see if that reduces the problem

And if the cat tries to eat it indoors he'll have foiled his cunning plan!:D

Cats hate strong odours, so a little air freshener in the face (not from too close, might seriously irritate its eyes!) whenever he munches on the plastic will do the trick.

we have two cats a burman and a Persian and the burman also eats grass when he is out side if fact he will try plants as well and he will also try eating the bin liner but we try and stop him if we see him doing it as vets cost money, if he has a hairball it can be anywhere but the persian will always use the litter tray.

an air freshener is a big no no as this can get on there fir and make them sick when they wash

I had this problem of hair balls with my cat a few years ago. The vet recommended using a few drops of liquid paraffin in her food every day for a week - it worked.
If both cats groom each other, it's essential that you groom both cats thoroughly at least a couple of times a week.
Aerosols will harm a cat but water won't. Aim a water pistol at the cat whenever you see him chewing on a plastic bag.

Lovely pics :D

Our cat Spike is also a rescued cat - he's 13 now though. He's also a house cat and like yours love's chewing on plastic bags.

We not really done anything to prevent him from doing this other than trying to make sure there's never any platic bags in chewing distance within the house.

The water pistol idea is a good one - bit late for me though considering our cats age :(

I wouldn't worry about the whole hairball thing, my lady-cat 'Maggie' has had the same problem all her life, shes around 10 years old now and still going strong so it can't be much of a risk to their health.

On the bag eating front, they're cats, they do dumb crap like this just for amusement. All you can do is try and deter them from being thick by continuing to do what you are now.

They're hardy creatures so don't worry too much, but it's good to see you are clearly a caring owner.

Evening Primrose oil helps the condition of their fur and makes them shed less. It works wonders with our persian. A few drops in food once a day is enough and the bottle lasts for ages.

Short hair cats should be brushed every few days to get rid of loose hair. Maybe she would benefit from this?

Have no idea about the male cat. Jasper is scared of plastic bags!

thanks for all the tips :) will definately try the water pistol idea cuz that even makes it fun for me!!!

yeah we groom them everyday, they love getting brushed and i work at home with my dad so theres always 3 of us around.

I should link u the youtube video ^_^ you'll love it some real cat love there ^_^

mine are stupid about plastic, the second we bring any shopping into the house they are trying to get into them even full of food. When they were first introduced to pineapple they were "slightly" more careful about jumping into full bags. They'll happily sleep/sit on them for ages and seem to love crawling in, scratching a whole in the bottom and stretching their legs out the holes.

Have a girl and a boy, he is always doing like the meme pic, he rolls over and twists his neck around all the time, though when you startle them that position does make for interesting/funny waking up and bolting out of a room :p

sounds obvious but keep him away got platic bags

re the other thats a bit easier, a teaspoon of butter ( every 3-4 weeks ) should help digestion and regurgitation
