After watching the last episode of "What To Eat Now" I am really tempted to get some Partridge to cook up - I've never tried it and am wondering how "gamey" it really is? My missus isn't really adventurous when it comes to this sort of thing so I don't want to blow good money on some birds just for them not to get eaten :)

It's kinda rich, but not overpoweringly so. It's good. I'd say the closest alternative would be wood pigeon.

Think along the lines of duck meat when referring to "gamey". It's darker in colour and deeper in flavour due to the animal making use of it's muscles.

Partridge is very nice, but with regards to the flavour, it has as much to do with how long it's hung than the type of animal imo.

Had it last night funnily enough. It's delicious. Not terribly gamey at all. Somewhere around guniea fowl level of gaminess may be. It cooks really quickly and is very tasty. To roast it takes 30 mins, may be even a touch less in a hot oven. My wife is not game mad but loved it and asked me to get some more.
