When I say bank details - I mean account number and sort code, can anyone get access to my bank account with these or anything bad like that?

Just a bit dubious before I give some my details for a bank transfer ;)

Thanks guys :D

Aslong as you send a photocopy of your passport you should be fine.

And yes, you need those pieces of information to even do a bank transfer so obviously it's safe.

Somebody could try to withdrawer money from your bank - but they'll have to fake your signature, and your bank should check.

They could also setup a direct debit, but only proper companies can take direct debits and you would be guaranteed to get it back.

Basically - quite hard for anybody to exploit, easy for you to dispute, and you do know every cheque has the same information on don't you?

Spose your right, but bear in mind Im 18 and this kind of stuff is quite new to me, but thanks for giving me confidence in the system :)

I'll prove it's safe. Just send me your details you'll see nothing will happen!

Its my preferred method of paying/being paid.

These days if you didnt do something yourself.. you can get your money back no problem!

I actually signed up for a direct debit for my car insurance the other day and all they needed to activate it was my name, address, sort code and account number,

Scary what you can do with so little information

If you get sent a cheque you will have exactly the same details you need for a bank transfer, infact you have more as you can see their signature aswell.
