Just been released, I've got them installed already ahead of the launch on Friday.

I don't suppose any American OcUK'ers could let us know the performance with 4850s/4870s on release day tomorrow? :D

Well all i have read lately is how you have to wait a month for ati to release fixes to new games and yet here is one before the game is even released i am confused.

Any news about the dx10.1 stuff?

Never mind, just read this:

As we reported, the website wants to have learned that Far Cry 2 would be a DX10.1 game. When we visited the developers in Montreal, we interviewed Dominic Guay (Engineering Director) and Cedric Decelle (Lead Programmer) and explicitly asked about DX10.1 support. Here is what we got:

PCGH: Do you take advantage of DirectX 10.1 as well?

Cedric: Not really. We use some features that give us some more performance on DX10 hardware.

Dominic: So we were lucky enough, that the DX10.1 features we wanted to use are also supported on DX10 boards, although the API was not exposed, they were there, so now we are kind of able to get that hardware functionality used even on DX10 boards.

We contacted Ubisoft and asked for clarification. As soon as we get an answer, we will deliver the updated information

ATI generally release 'hotfixes' for major high-profile releases, they did the same with Bioshock. Unfortunately depending on the hotfix, it may take a couple of months before the hotfix ends up in the main release - or it could be within the very next main release. I would imagine the Far Cry 2 stuff in this hotfix will be present in the 8.11 release.

From what I can tell in the graphs, it appears the Hotfix just enables CrossFire support, mixed with a teeny performance increase for single GPUs. The 260 SLI didn't need a new driver, SLI was already supported in the driver which is standard for a TWIMTBP game - they get supported in the driver months in advance.

Thx Boogle clears that up then so Ati are not quite as lax as some on here would have us believe then.

Not anymore really - they do their best. The problem ATI have is a lack of developer relations which means they tend to need to release hotfix drivers for brand new titles (like Far Cry 2). ATI have better community support though, and anyone can post driver bugs to their driver team. I think NV recently created a bug report form, but I doubt its taken as seriously as the ATI one.

The reason I believe NV drivers tend to be better is down to their developer relations - aka. The Way Its Meant to Be Played. Conspiracies aside, the idea of the program is that the game is tested thorougly on NV hardware and driver support is in place before the game's release. It's not a performance thing, it's just something in place to try and minimise issues and ensure NV's features are used. Suffice it to say, if NV supported DX10.1, more games would use it simply due to the support NV offers.

Looking at those benchmarks the performance seems to be very good, certainly better than crysis and IMO farcry 2 looks better that crypap.

Well...I've had a shot at FC2 and I can confirm that it doesn't look nearly as good as Crysis.

Don't get me wrong, nice looking game, but you can tell it's designed for the consoles.

^^
But at least it will run :)

I've no problem with losing some of the Crysis eye candy if it works better.
