Any Audi RS6 owners here...?

Big fuel bills, annoying slush-o-matic, understeer, numb arms, nice noise, feeling that its quicker than it really is if that makes sense, more bills, more often than not 'greyness' and generally dated feel to the interior. Feels its age now and was never that dynamic or special really, though they are quick.....just not THAT quick.

A friend has got a 2003 or 2004 RS6, which is a great drive. He did however have a 17k bill from the Audi garage last week. Luckily it was still under warranty.

17K bill???

Did they swap it for a B5 RS4?

I was shocked at the price of the bill, but I'm sure it could have been done for a lot less at an independent. I dont know the full details but it involved a turbo failure, taking other components including the exhaust with it.

They saw him coming! Probably fitted a rare council turbo, plus VAT, plus council tax, plus delivery = £17k :D

As Housey says old RS6 was pretty awful really. The single most disappointing car I've ever driven, based on my expectations. It was dreadful. Better off getting an old 200 Turbo really :D

Can't be that bad - EVO rated the RS6 and included the RS6+ (not massively different) in their eCOTY (it did come last, but its an achievement just to get in it)

A guy on another forum owns on alongside some tasty Porsches and rates it *based on its target role* - ie, an excellent long distance, rediculously fast load-lugging-super-estate. Its not a B-road hustler.

And most of the people who yell about horrendous running costs take them to dealers. You can roughly halve them (and get better service to boot) by going to a good independant.

Indys will not halve repair bills. You can get a substantial reduction but not by 50%.

I get work done at my indy for less than half the price of the dealers, he also does the work twice as well as the dealers

You almost can....

MRC labour rate is £49+vat, audi wimbledon is about £95+vat per hour. Of course you can't change audi parts prices but you can halve the labour cost.

I don't have much experience of the RS6 but the prices of them tell you that they are not as in demand as many of the other RS models...

Problem is you get a reduction in labour rates but not in the cost of OEM parts so its more like a 25 - 30% reduction

yea it would all be relative to the parts:time ratio I guess, on my last car I saved about £400 on my 60k service though :D (time consuming with all the belt changes etc)

I looked at a few in 2006 when I bought my S4 (V8). Along with the RS4 (2.7TT). I wasn't really looking for the RS6/RS6+ but they were always in the same places as the S4/RS4 so it would have been rude not eh?

The conclusion I came to about the RS6 was that it was a lot of car for the money(30-35k) but not at all suitable. First of all my sensible head kicked in after all I was selling my Porsche because I was expecting.

Then the reality of the car also set in.

This post says a lot .

It doesn't change the fact that I love the car but it's perhaps not the car the public percieve it to be.

Auto only sucks and 400bhp+ is blunted by 2 tonnes or whatever it is.

The dealer must be feeling the credit crunch a new engine, intercoolers, two turbos and an exhaust wouldn't even come to 17k fitted. Probaly needed a new turbo and the dealer noticed it had a warranty and thought lets just replace the whole lot for the extra labour.

I had a quick drive of a RS6 and didn't think much of it other than its traction in the wet, depends what you are buying it for though its not a sharp handling car which is where the M5 is better however on a damp/wet/snow covered country road or at vmax on the autobahn you probaly would want to be in a RS6. Same goes for the new one although reading the reviews it seems to handle a lot better than the old one but still not as good as a M5 Touring.
